Women's Soccer Fight Hard in Tough 2-0 Home Loss

Rams drop Saturday match against Life

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - Following a 3-2 win over Dalton State on Thursday, the Rams turned their attention towards Saturday morning as they were set to face the #2 side in the SSAC Women's Soccer Standings, Life University. For the home side, they entered the match knowing it would not be easy, but the players put up a strong fight against a team that is in the top 15 of the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The visiting Running Eagles would open the match on the front foot, immediately testing goalkeeper Sarah Polk with a flurry of shots and crosses through the first 20 minutes. Despite the pressure front Life's frontline, the Mobile defense would hold strong through the first half as they faced 13 shots. During the second half, Mobile saw themselves begin to craft open solid opportunities as they out shot Life 12-11 through the final 45 minutes. The Rams forced three saves out of the opposition goalie through the first 10 minutes of the second half, signaling a change of momentum as Mobile began to build into the match. In the 71st minute, Life would take the wind out of Mobile's sails as they scored on the counter-attack to take the lead. Just moments before the goal, Mobile fans thought their side had won a penalty as Andi Hughes went to ground inside the box, but the referee did not share the opinion of the fans, allowing the break away by life and ensuing goal. The Running Eagles would double their tally in the 87th minute to put the game to bed and seal Mobile's fate as the match would end 0-2 with the visitors taking all three points from the match. Sarah Polk recorded 11 saves in the match, helping keep her side in the match for as long as possible.

Up Next for the Rams

Mobile (9-4-1, 5-2-1) will have a few days to rest before traveling to West Point, Georgia on Wednesday, October 22nd as they face Point University in an SSAC match at 4pm CT.
