Rams Suffer Setback in Battle for Top 4 Seed in SSAC

Women's soccer falls to Point 1-0 on the road

WEST POINT, Ga. - With the Rams in the hunt for a top 4 spot in the SSAC, they traveled to West Point, Georgia to face the Skyhawks of Point University. The top 4 spots in the SSAC Women's Soccer Standings determine hosting rights for the opening round of the conference tournament set to take place at different campus sites between Thursday, October 30th and Saturday, November 1st. A win against Point would have secured the 4th place spot for Mobile, giving them a 4 point advantage over the 5th placed Skyhawks.

With a 4:30pm local kickoff time, the Rams and Skyhawks were evenly matched throughout the 90 minutes with both sides forcing saves out of the goalkeepers. Sarah Polk didn't have much to do in the first half as she watched two efforts go wide of her net in the 35th and 37th minutes. The Rams put 5 efforts on target in the first half but were unable to convert any of the chances into the opening goal leading the teams to go into the halftime break level on the scoreboard.

Coming out of the break, Mobile were pushed back into their half by the home side with Point forcing 3 saves out of Polk in rapid succession. The opener and eventual game winner would come for the opposition in the 51st minute as Point scored on a free kick from the top of the box following a foul by the Rams. Following the opener, Mobile forced three more saves out of the opposition goalkeeper in the second half, but the Point defense stood firm, with Mobile falling 1-0 and slipping to 5th place in the conference standings as the Skyhawks jumped over them into 4th.

Up Next for the Rams

Mobile (9-5-1, 5-3-1) will celebrate Senior Day in The Jungle on Saturday, October 25th at 1:30pm CT as they take on the Eagles of Faulkner University in the battle of I-65. Senior Day celebrations will begin approximately 20 minutes before kick off as the University of Mobile Women's Soccer program honors their graduating seniors for all that they have contributed to the team.
