Men's Soccer Earns Much Needed Win Against Point

Rams ground the Skyhawks in 2-1 comeback victory

WEST POINT, Ga. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team traveled to Point University on Wednesday afternoon with the regular season drawing nearer to the end. Mobile sat in 6th place in the SSAC standings before the match with 10 points, needing a win against the Skyhawks to keep their chances of claiming a top 4 seed alive. With the pressure building on the team after a rough year, the Rams would come through on the road, snagging a 2-1 comeback win to keep the dream alive.

With a 7:00pm local kickoff time, things got underway in the River Bowl Stadium with Joseph McMahon forcing the first save of the match in the 10th minute. The Rams would fall behind as Point took the lead in 28th minute with the only other shot of the entire first half. Despite going into halftime down a goal, the Rams would enter the second half rejuvenated, peppering the Skyhawks net with shots before Joseph McMahon found the equalizing goal in the 60th minute. Just 13 minutes later, Mobile won a penalty and McMahon would step up once again t bury the effort past the keeper and give Mobile the lead with what would be the game winner. Goalkeeper Sam MacDonald would make a save in the 81st minute to keep the lead intact and the Rams would go on to secure the victory.

Mobile now sit in 5th place in the SSAC Men's Soccer Standings, tied with Dalton State on 13 points. The Rams will need a victory over Faulkner on Saturday, or a draw against the Eagles and a favorable result in the Dalton State vs Life match to secure a top 4 spot in the opening round of the SSAC Conference Tournament.

Up Next for the Rams

Mobile (5-8-1, 4-3-1) will celebrate Senior Day in The Jungle on Saturday, October 25th at 4:00pm CT as they take on the Eagles of Faulkner University in the battle of I-65. Senior Day celebrations will begin approximately 20 minutes before kick off as the University of Mobile Men's Soccer program honors their graduating seniors for all that they have contributed to the team.
