Rams Take Down the Eagles in 3 Sets

Volleyball completes double over Faulkner with home win

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Rams continued their amazing run of form with a three set sweep over the Eagles of Faulkner University on Thursday night. The Rams are currently on an eight game win streak with the last loss coming on September 20th to Blue Mountain in what was a five set away loss. Just three more SSAC matches remain for Mobile who sit atop the conference volleyball standings with a conference record of 11-2.

Mobile vs. Faulkner Recap: (3-0 | 25-17, 25-19, 25-23)

The Rams were raring to go as set one got underway with the home side jumping out to a 6-0 lead early on which saw Faulkner call an early timeout. The lead for Mobile would jump up to 13-4 before the Eagles began to mount a comeback effort. Despite the best efforts of the away team, Mobile had just too much momentum as they would see out set one with a 25-17 victory. Set two was back and forth between the two sides, but Mobile would have the edge as they hit .353 in the set to help them slowly build up a small lead over their opponents. With a score of 25-19, Mobile would take the second set and set up the opportunity for the sweep in set three. After holding the lead for much of the first two sets, Mobile found themselves trailing for a large part of the final set with Faulkner taking an early lead and holding it for the first half of the set. Faulkner's final lead was 13-14 as the Rams went on a short run to take the lead 17-14. Even after taking the lead back, Mobile faced strong resistance from their opponents who were determined to not be swept again by Mobile. Set three would find its conclusion with Mobile sealing a 25-23 win to extend their lead at the top of the SSAC standings.

The attack for Mobile was lead by Corrina Porch-Maxey with 11 kills, followed by Sophie Dorris with 10 and Emily Osborne with 9. Mobile's attack can thank their setters for their performance as Emma McPherson dished out an incredible 31 assists in the match with the Rams running a 6-2 setup. Last, but not least, senior libero Jaci Drinnon reached an incredible career milestone in the match after collecting 23 digs as she surpassed the 2000 career digs mark. During her two seasons with Mobile, she has amassed 1110 digs and is averaging 6.33 digs per set this season.
