Women's Soccer Puts 5 Past Faulkner on Senior Day

Rams claim 4th in SSAC standings and opening round hosting rights

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - On a cloudy Saturday afternoon, the Univeristy of Mobile Women's Soccer team celebrated their graduating seniors during a pre-game ceremony. The Rams entered the match knowing that a win against the Eagles would be required to grab the #4 seed in the SSAC standings. With everything on the line, the Rams would pull through and deliver, smashing five goals past the Eagles in a dominant display.

Mobile kicked off the match with Ashlyn Broussard, Cory Powell, and Latifha Pascall all on the field getting a start in the final regular season home game of their Mobile careers. Those three were subbed off the field immediately following kick-off and the match began to unfold with the Rams being called offsides twice. Natalie Burt would open the scoring in the 16th minute, beating the Faulkner keeper at the near post following a great through ball by Eleanor Cowan. The Rams stayed off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half, but had several opportunities to add to their lead.

Following halftime, Mobile's offense became electric with the team taking 16 shots at Faulkner's net. The advantage was doubled for Mobile in the 49th minute with Becca Ryan striking home an effort that was put on a plate for her by Evellyn Borges. Andi Hughes joined in on the goals, with a 53rd minute penalty kick. In the 64th minute, Jil Hellerforth got her first goal of the match after receiving a pass from Noelia Cruz. Hellerforth doubled her tally and rounded out the scoring in the 78th minute with the assist being provided by Lucy Allen. Sarah Polk made 3 saves in the match to keep a clean sheet while Kaitlyn Skrove and Bailey Bronner formed a strong back line for much of the match that helped limit the efforts that the opposition created.
