Volleyball Heading to SSAC Championship Final

Rams defeat Faulkner and Point for place in title match

MULTIPLEX at CRAMTON BOWL | MONTGOMERY, Ala. - On day two of the SSAC Volleyball Championship, Mobile took down Faulkner to wrap up the group stage with a 3-0 record heading into the Semifinals. Mobile would find out later on that they would face Point University in the Semifinal match that afternoon, where the Rams would go on to take down the Skyhawks for a spot in the final. Mobile are looking to become back-to-back SSAC Volleyball Championship tournament champions.

Game One Recap | Mobile vs. Faulkner (3-1 | 25-19, 20-25, 25-17, 25-11)

Mobile got things started on Friday morning playing Faulkner University to round out the group stage of the tournament. The Rams and the Eagles would go four sets in the match, with the Rams unable to sweep their opponents for the third time in the tournament. Mobile would take set one however, winning 25-19, marking the first time all tournament that they had done so. The Rams would go into set two and fall behind early on with Faulkner leading 7-5. Mobile would battle back and keep it close before the Eagles scored 5 straight at the end to win 25-20 and tie the match up 1-1. Despite the setback of dropping set two, the Rams would rally back to take set three before closing the door on Faulkner with a dominant set four, winning 25-11 and closing out the group stage undefeated.

Peyton Frazer put on a strong offensive display, tallying 12 kills with just 3 errors for a hitting percentage of .300. Sophie Dorris and Emma Hampton both recorded no attack errors while getting 9 and 8 kills respectively. Mobile's defense was strongest at the net as Emily Osborne, Jenny Cope, and Sophie Dorris all had 5+ blocks in the match. Defensive Player of the Year Jaci Drinnon had 17 digs in the match while Emma McPherson led the way in assists with 24.

Game Two Recap | Mobile vs. Point (3-0 | 25-20, 25-15, 25-13)

Having claimed the number one seed out of Group A, Mobile learned that they would be facing Point University in the semifinals after the Skyhawks defeated William Carey earlier in the day. Set one between the two sides saw the lead change hands four times in the first 11 points of the match with Mobile retaking the lead 6-5 and never looking back. The Rams would extend their lead out to 11-7 and despite a 7-5 run for the opposition, Mobile would fight hard on their way to a 25-20 win to take set one. Set two would not be as close as things started out as the Rams jumped out to an 8-3 lead early on which forced Point into calling a timeout. That timeout seemed to help the Rams the most as they proceeded to go on a 10-4 run as the Rams pulled further ahead on the scoreboard. Mobile would close out the set with a 25-15 win to go into set three looking to get their first sweep of the tournament. Set three would be almost error free on offense as the Rams picked up 15 kills on .483 hitting percentage on their way to a 25-13 win to secure the sweep.

First-Team All-Conference member Emily Osborne had a match to remember as she logged 7 kills on 9 attacks for a .778 hitting percentage to go along with 6 blocks. Jaci Drinnon dug the ball 20 times in the match with 4 assists to go along with it. Emma McPherson once again led the way with 23 assists while Hannah Ellis followed her up with 17 of her own.
