Women's Basketball Falls to SUNO

Rams now 1-5 to start 2025-2026 season

NEW ORLEANS, La. - On Saturday afternoon in New Orleans, Louisiana the University of Mobile Rams Women's Basketball team faced Southern University of New Orleans (SUNO) in a continuation of their early season non-conference games. After winning their season opener, Mobile have suffered some early season struggles as the Rams have gone on to lose 5 straight games, including a loss to SUNO in this afternoon's game. Similar to other losses this season, Mobile kept pace with SUNO in the first and fourth quarters, but sluggish second and third quarters would doom them to defeat as the Rams are now 1-5 with work to be done ahead of SSAC play beginning next week.

Opening up the first quarter, Mobile were able to keep pace with the Knights as Emilee Duet and Taylor Lee combined for 8 points with the Rams trailing SUNO 16-17 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter would start the slide for the Rams with a 3-pointer by Deja Pryor preceding a three and a half minute scoreless stretch for the side. SUNO would take advantage of the opportunity and jump out to a 25-19 lead. McKenna Sinon would break the scoring drought with 6:47 left in the half, but it would be another three minutes before Mobile scored another field goal as Lamaria Jones cut SUNO's lead down to 10 with 3:46 left. The first half would end with the Knights on top 46-30 and the Rams looking for answers as the headed into halftime.

Coming back from the halftime break, Mobile couldn't keep up with the hot shooting hands of their opponents despite scoring three 3-pointers in under a minute and half. SUNO outscored the Rams 30-18 in the third quarter as the Rams saw the game slipping away from them, trailing 76-48 with just a 10 minutes left to play. Mobile would play their best quarter of basketball in the fourth, putting up 23 points with Emilee Duet leading the way with 10 points and 2 steals. Despite a high scoring performance in the fourth quarter, the Rams still found themselves outscored by the home side as SUNO would score 25 with the Rams falling 71-101.

Mobile saw three players reach double digit points in the loss as Emilee Duet scored 17, Lamaria Jones followed her up with 12 points, and Jada Johnson put up 10. Heaven Watlington had her best game as a Ram so far recording 8 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and a steal in just her third appearance of the season.

Up Next for the Rams

The University of Mobile's Women's Basketball team continues their two game road stretch on Tuesday, November 18th as they face off against Xavier University (La.). The Rams will look to stop their early season slide and get things back on track ahead of back-to-back home SSAC games against UT-Southern and Blue Mountain on the 20th and 22nd of November.
