Consistent Scoring Gives Rams A Road Win Against Xavier

Mobile picks up second win of the season with 59-53 victory over XULA

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Following a loss to SUNO in New Orleans on Thursday, the Rams headed back to the Crescent City for a meeting with Xavier University of Louisiana. While classified as a non-conference game for the 2025-2026 season, Xavier University will be joining the Southern States Athletic Conference as a full member during the 2026-2027 athletic calendar onward, making this the final non-conference meeting between the two teams for the foreseeable future. Heading into the game, Mobile had won just three away meetings all-time against the Gold Nuggets, with Xavier also holding the advantage in the overall series record at 50-20. Despite history and early season results being against them, the Rams managed to find a way as they took down the Gold Nuggets 59-53 to move to 2-5 on the season.

In a season where the second and third quarters have often seen a drop in performance, the story would be different on Tuesday evening as the Rams scored 14+ points in all four quarters to take home a solid road win against the host school. The game was a low scoring affair as Xavier's 17 point fourth quarter would be the most points scored by either side in a single quarter. The two teams kept it close through the opening 10 minutes with Xavier holding a 15-14 lead heading into the second quarter. The second quarter is where the Rams played their best, outscoring their opponents 16-7 while shooting 46.7% from the field. Jarniya Maddox had 4 points and 5 rebounds in the second while Lamaria Jones led the scoring for the period with 5 points. The Rams would carry a 30-22 lead into halftime with work to be done in the second half to hold on to the lead.

Coming out of the halftime break, Jada Johnson opened up Mobile's account with a successful and-1 before Lamaria Jones would go to the line making both free throws. Johnson would make another jumper and a 3-pointer to help solidify the lead as the Rams went into the final quarter up 45-36 over the home side. As Mobile looked to close out the game, Jada Johnson, Lamaria Jones, and Emilee Duet all put up 4 points to put their side over the top as Xavier was unable to get the comeback. Mobile would take home a 59-53 win over Xavier, moving the team to 2-5 overall this season ahead of back-to-back conference home games this weekend.

Jada Johnson led the scoring for Mobile with 18 points, collecting 8 rebounds and providing 3 assists along with 3 blocks and a steal. Lamaria Jones recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Taylor Lee just missed out on the double-double, putting up 8 points and 9 rebounds in the win.
