Women's Basketball Goes 0-2 to Start SSAC Play

Rams fall to Firehawks and Toppers at home

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team kicked off conference play on Thursday evening facing UT-Southern before moving on to a meeting with Blue Mountian Christian on Saturday at noon. The Rams would fall to the opposition in both games with Saturday's game being a closer affair between the two sides. The Rams are now 2-7 overall with the team still looking to battle past their early season struggles.

Game One Recap | Mobile (56) vs. UT-Southern (96):

UT-Southern broke away from the Rams in the opening 10 minutes and would hold the lead all the way to the final buzzer. Mobile once again faced their 2nd and 3rd quarter slumps that have plagued them all season as the Rams scored a game high 18 points in the 4th quarter. Overall, the team shot just 29.2% from the field and just 4.5% from 3-point range while making 56.5% of free throws.

Jada Johnson led the scoring for Mobile with 15 points with Taylor Lee chipping in with 8, while Heaven Watlington scored 6 in the loss. Emilee Duet and Cierra Highland both recorded 3 assists in the game.

Game Two Recap | Mobile (62) vs. Blue Mountain Christian (70):

Following up Thursday's loss, the Rams were looking for a much better performance against the Toppers in the hopes of splitting their opening two SSAC games of the season. While the Rams fared better offensively against Blue Mountain Christian, it still wouldn't be enough as the Rams would fall 62-70 at home.

The Toppers opened up the game outscoring the Rams 38-26 in the first half with Mobile's second quarter performance improving over the first. The second half saw a very different Rams side on the court as they forced 12 Toppers turnovers while mounting a comeback effort that would fall short despite having closed the gap to just 3 points with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter.

Taylor Lee had a standout game for Mobile, putting up 17 points along with 11 rebounds and 2 steals. Lamaria Jones, Jada Johnson, and Emilee Duet all scored doubled digit points totals in the loss while Johnson was 2 rebounds shy of her third double-double of the season.
