Rams Earn Road Win Against Florida Memorial

Mobile claims much needed win in West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - With classes out at the University of Mobile for Thanksgiving break, the Mobile Rams Women's Basketball team traveled down to south Florida for the Keiser University Thanksgiving Classic where they opened up their time with a game against Florida Memorial University. Heading into the tournament, Mobile was 2-7 to start the season with both wins coming away from home for the team. Slow second and third quarters have often sunk the team, but on Tuesday the Rams would not let this hold them back as they powered their way through to a close 65-64 win that improved their record to 3-7.

Taylor Lee opened the scoring for Rams just 15 seconds in before Deja Pryor added on three points of her own a minute later. The Lions of Florida Memorial then went on a 14-2 run to take the lead from Mobile with just under four minutes left in the first quarter. Despite falling behind, Mobile would storm back with a 12-1 run of their own to close out the first quarter with a 19-15 lead that would come back to be vital in the end. Across the second and third quarters, the Rams would be outscored 26-34 by the Lions as the mid game slump began to run its course as normal. Even though the scoreboard showed the Lions had taken back the lead, Mobile did well to limit the scoring efficiency of the opposition which set them up perfectly for their comeback in the fourth. With a quarter left to play and the side down by four, Mobile began their push for the win as they would quickly take back the lead with a 5-0 run in the first two minutes. Florida Memorial and Mobile would battle back for control of the lead after that as with a minute left the Rams would be ahead by one. FMU would score back-to-back free throws after a foul by Jarniya Maddox to give them the lead by a single point with 41 seconds left. As time ticked down Lamaria Jones would put the Rams ahead before florida Memorial retook the lead with 14 second left. With the final possession and the team needing a successful basket to get the win Emilee Duet worked open a free path to the basket before finding Lamaria Jones waiting wide open underneath the basket. Jones would convert the layup with 2 seconds left on the clock and Florida Memorial were unable to get a shot off as the final buzzer sounded, giving the Rams their third victory of the season.

Lamaria Jones willed her side to the victory in this one, contributing over 1/3rd of Mobile's points in her 26 point, 8 rebound, 1 assist showing. Jada Johnson continued to impress with a 9 point, 8 rebound, 3 assist, and 1 steal outing.
