First Home Loss of 2025-2026 for Men's Basketball

Rams fall to Fire in Pharr Gymnasium

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - Playing at home for the final time in 2025, the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team looked to defend their perfect home court record against a good Southeastern team. The 7-1 Rams came in ready for a battle against the 6-1 Fire as both sides looked to propel themselves further into the conversations for consideration in the NAIA's Top 25 Coaches Polls. Despite the best efforts of the Rams, the Fire would have too much in store for them as they would suffer their first home loss of the 2025-2026 season, losing 84-70. Mobile was without starting guard Alex Hammond for the game with his absence likely playing a part in the team's struggles.

From the onset of the game, the visitors were on the front foot as the Rams failed to hold the lead at any point in the contest. Following the opening basket by the Fire, Mobile's Oliver Boyle would knock home a 3-pointer to tie things up at 3 all. That would be the closest that Mobile would come to the lead all afternoon as the visitors quickly opened up a 15-5 lead through the first four minutes which would be a sign of things to come. Throughout much of the remainder of the half, Southeastern would lead by 7 or more points keeping the Rams at least three possessions away from the lead. The first half would close out with the Rams trailing 32-44 to the Fire.

The story of the second half would be much the same as the first as the Fire would hold firm to the lead despite an early comeback push from the home side. Mobile started strong and slowly began to chip away at Southeastern's lead with the gap closing to just 4 points at the 12:16 and 11:41 marks following layups by Dayton Richardson and Mason Sword. As the game began to wind down, the visitors would pull away as they put their shots away and out-rebounded the Rams to doom them to an 84-70 home loss.

Southeastern dominated the rebound category 40-24 while also shooting 52.5% from the field compared to Mobile's 39.1%. Zion Hunter had a great outing in the loss, recording a 19 point and 10 rebound double-double. Jarvis Moss put up 18 points in a 33 minute starting appearance as he replaced the absent Alex Hammond in the starting five.

Up Next for the Rams

The University of Mobile's Men's Basketball team is on the road for the rest of 2025 as they head to Kingsport, Tennessee for the 11th Annual NAIA Classic "The Show" this weekend ahead of meetings with Georgetown and Campbellsville.
