Rams Fall on Hard Times at "The Show"

Men's Basketball suffers two defeats in NAIA Classic "The Show"

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The University of Mobile Rams Men's Basketball team was in Kingsport, Tennessee over the weekend for the 11th Annual NAIA Classic The Show. With 20 different teams from across the country coming together to showcase the best of NAIA basketball, the Rams were faced with tough opposition in the #13 ranked Tigers of Georgetown and the Tigers of Campbellsville. Mobile would ultimately come away from the weekend empty handed as they would see defeat in both games to round out Thanksgiving week 0-3 in games played.

Game One Recap | Mobile (68) vs. Georgetown (Ky.) (89):

Coming off the back of the first home loss of the season, the Rams were faced with the tough task of playing the #13 ranked Tigers of Georgetown. Through the first three minutes of the game, everything went the way of the Tigers as they opened up an 8-0 lead on the Rams. Mason Sword would open up Mobile's account in the game with a 3-pointer, but momentum stayed with the Tigers as the Rams would find themselves behind 18-5 after just 6 minutes. Mobile would cut the lead down to 7 just over midway through the first half following a Jarvis Moss free throw. Things would begin to fall apart again for the Rams as they would find themselves down 46-31 at halftime with the team unable to find a way to battle the hot shooting hands of their opponents.

Despite a stronger second half that saw the Rams shoot 50% from the field, the Tigers continued to torch the Rams as the scoreboard would read 68-89 when the final buzzer rang out. Just four Rams saw the court for more than 20 minutes in the loss with Dayton Richardson leading the team in points and rebound with a 16 point, 7 rebound game. Aahmod Scarbrough led the side with 3 assists while Oliver Boyle picked the pocket of the opponents 3 times in the game.

Game Two Recap | Mobile (43) vs. Campbellsville (77):

Having to turn around less than 24 hours after the loss to Georgetown, the Rams faced the Tigers of Campbellsville on Sunday, with a low shooting percentage once again the culprit as Mobile saw defeat for te second time in two days. Javion Dailey tied things up a 2-2 with the Rams' first basket of the day. Oliver Boyle followed it up with a 3-pointer with 16:52 on the clock which would be the last points scored for over 5 minutes. By the time the Rams scored their 10th point, Campbellsville were ahead 22-10. The Rams would close out the first half with several turnovers and missed shots as they went into the halftime break trailing the Tigers 31-19.

The second half did not get easier for Mobile as they watched their opponents go on a 31-8 run during the first 12 minutes of the second half. Mobile improved in the final 8 minutes, scoring 16 points, but it would too little too late as they would fall to 7-4 on the season with a 43-77 loss to round out their time at "The Show". Similar to the day before, just two Rams saw more than 20 minutes on the court as Dayton Richardson and Aahmod Scarborugh played 25 and 31 minutes respectively. Zion Hunter and Bridges Simmons would lead the team in scoring as both players put up 10 points from their appearances off the bench.
