Men's Basketball Defends Home Court Against Stillman

Rams take down Tigers to move to 4-1 on the season

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - Playing at home for the second night in a row, the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team took on Stillman College in what was a tough battle between former conference opponents. The Tigers of Stillman University are former members of the Southern States Athletic Conference who now compete in the HBCU Athletic Conference (formerly known as the GCAC). The early season game pitted the Rams against a Tigers side that plays a tough and physical brand of basketball that can wear out the best of teams. However, the Rams would come prepared for the battle as they would send the opposition home empty handed as they picked up a 65-56 home court win.

The first half opened up with Stillman on the board first after 2 minutes of scoreless play. Aahmod Scarbrough followed that up with a jumper of his own and a 3 pointer that would give Mobile a lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the half. With 5:49 left to play in the first half, Mason Sword dropped the ball in on a layup to give his side an 8 point lead over the Tigers, which would become Mobile's largest lead of the half. Stillman then proceeded to go on a 9-2 run to end the half as Mobile held onto a narrow 28-27 lead going into the break.

Stillman were strong out of the gates of halftime, forcing a steal which turned into two free throws after a foul by Scarbrough. Stillman would take the lead from Mobile early in the half, but the Rams began to get the gears moving as a Dayton Richardson layup closed the gap to 1 point before Scarbrough drained a 3 pointer to hand back the lead to his side. The Rams would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game with the team outworking Stillman as they increased their lead over the Tigers with the largest gap being 12 points. When the game clock expired, Mobile had secure the home court victory, beating the opposition 65-56 and maintaining Mobile's perfect record at home this season.

Mason Sword had 17 points off the bench for Mobile along with 7 rebounds while Aahmod Scarbrough put up 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in the victory. Kristiyan Vasilev had 8 points and 8 rebounds with 1 block in his 32 minutes as a starter. Overall, the Rams shot 39.6% from the field and 52.4% from behind the arc. From the line Mobile made just 57.1% of their free throws.

Up Next for the Rams

Men's basketball continues their stretch of home games with a 2:30pm CT tip-off on Saturday, November 8th when they face off against the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian University.
