Rams Win Regular Season Title and Celebrate Senior Day Over Weekend

Final home games of 2025 season for volleyball

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - For the second year in a row, the University of Mobile Volleyball team has earned the title of SSAC Regular Season Champions with the team closing out the regular season with an overall record of 25-2 and a conference record of 14-2. Mobile headed into the weekend knowing that single win would see them become regular season champions again with Blue Mountain and Loyola already having lost four conference matches this season. On Friday evening, the Rams would get the job done as they swept the Firehawks, leaving the Rams free to enjoy Senior Day celebrations on Saturday as they took on Blue Mountain.

Game One Recap | Mobile vs. UT-Southern (3-0 | 25-14, 25-13, 25-16)

Mobile wasted no time in the match, quickly building up a 12-2 lead over the away side as the Rams hit .270 in set one. UT-Southern would find a rhythm later on in the set and begin to fight back, but the damage was already done as the home side would take the first set 25-14. Set two was not much different as Mobile was already up 18-5 before the Firehawks scored their first consecutive points in the set. The Rams would take set two 25-13, leaving them just one set away from guaranteeing themselves the #1 seed in next week's conference tournament. Despite the first two sets heavily favoring the home side, UT-Southern started the set off well as they would take their first lead in any set scoring three straight to lead the Rams 3-2. The visitors would fight for the lead for the next several points, but the home side would eventually start to gain steam as they slowly built up their lead before closing out the match 25-16 to sweep the Firehawks in front of an energetic Ram crowd.

In the victory, Mobile had two attackers reaching 10+ kills as Emily Osborne had 10 and Corrina Porch-Maxey had 11. Osborne hit at an impressive .600% while also chipping in on defense with 3 block assists. Mobile's Libero, Jaci Drinnon, once again continued to lead the team in digs with 12 while Hope Blaylock had 9. Emma McPherson and Hannah Ellis continue to dish out the passes with the duo combining for 27 of Mobile's 36 assists.

Game Two Recap | Mobile vs. Blue Mountain (3-0 | 27-25, 25-20, 25-17)

With the regular season championship wrapped up, the full attention of Saturday's match against Blue Mountain was on celebrating Mobile's seniors. Jenny Cope, Emily Osborne, Elyssa Messick, Gabby Gordon, Jaci Drinnon, and Corrina Porch-Maxey were all honored prior to the start of the match with the six seniors all getting the opportunity to make an impact in the match as well. In contrast to Friday's match, the Rams would not find themselves jumping out to a large lead in the first two sets as Mobile and Blue Mountain battled hard for control over the match. For much of the first set, Mobile and Blue Mountain would exchange a one point lead with the Rams narrowly edging out a 27-25 win over the Toppers. Set two was slightly more comfortable for the home side as they held a 3 point lead for a large swath of the set. They would go on to take set two 25-20 and head into the third set with the possibility of sweeping one of only two teams that had gotten the better of them this season. In what would end up being the final set of the match, it would start out very similarly to the first two with Blue Mountain gaining a slight edge over Mobile as they built up an 11-7 lead. Following a block by Jenny Cope and Emma Hampton, Mobile's Gabby Gordon came in and would serve 11 times in a row, as Mobile went from being down by four to leading by six. That run would guide Mobile to a 25-17 win in the third set as Mobile swept the Toppers to close out the regular season and give their seniors a day to remember.

Jaci Drinnon, Georgia Simmons, and Hope Blaylock all had 10+ digs in the match with Drinnon leading the way with 21. Corrina Porch-Maxey and Emma Hampton both had 10+ kills with Hampton htting at an impressive .550 with no errors on 20 attacks. Emma McPherson continued to lead the way with 21 assists while Hannah Ellis provided 16 herself.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams head to Montgomery next week for the SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament where they will play two matches on Thursday, November 13th and at least one on Friday, November 14th. Mobile will look to defend their title as the reigning SSAC Volleyball Championship Tournament champions.
