Men's Basketball Earn Hard Fought Win Over UT-Southern

Rams pick up first ever road win against Firehawks as they sweep season series with 64-61 win

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team returned to action on Tuesday evening as they took on the Firehawks of UT-Southern in Pulaski, Tennessee. Prior ot the game, the Rams were 0-8 all time against UT-Southern when playing as the away side. The history between the two sides dates all the way back to the first meeting in 2006 when the home side was still know as Martin Methodist. Mobile and UT-Southern faced each other twice yearly in home and away series from 2016-2020 before the Firehawks left the SSAC. Since their return to the SSAC, Mobile is now 3-2 against the lone Tennessee team in the conference. The Rams would end their string of bad away results in this meeting as they narrowly edged out a tough 64-61 victory that gets them back to winning ways after four straight losses.

Mobile would be the side with the edge for most of the first half as they took the lead after two and half minutes. The lead would not return to the possession of the hosts for the rest of the half as Mobile maintained solid yet contested control of the game that would lead to them taking a 30-29 lead into halftime. Mobile's Mason Sword and Aahmod Scarbrough were the leaders for the Rams through the first half as Sword led the team with 13 points while Scarbrough put up 10 alongside 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

The second half was an exciting affair for the neutral fans as both teams would trade the lead back and forth all the way to the final two minutes. With things coming down to the wire, UT-Southern would take a 4 point lead with just under 2 minutes remaining. Zion Hunter would go on to score 4 points in 12 seconds to tie the game up at 60-60 with 1:34 left on the clock. Both sides would take shots that fell wide of the mark before Aahmod Scarbrough would be sent to the line on a foul where he made both efforts to put his side ahead 62-60. Two more free throws with 9 second left by Jarvis Moss would help to seal the game as UT-Southern would miss a game-tying three point shot to give the Rams their first ever road win over the Firehawks.

Zion Hunter would finish the game on a double-double with 10 rebounds and 14 points while the scoring would be led by first year Ram Mason Sword with 18 points. Aahmod Scarbrough was close to a double-double of his own with 16 points and 8 rebounds while also dishing out 3 assists in the win. Tyshaun Washington had a career high 26 minutes with the Rams in the game as he recorded 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
