Rams Fall to Firehawks in Pulaski

Women's Basketball drops to 0-4 in SSAC after 65-79 loss

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Mobile Rams returned to action for the first time in over a week on Tuesday afternoon as they continued SSAC play against UT-Southern. The Rams and Firehawks had already met once this season in the Pharr Gymnasium back on November 20th, in what ended as a 56-96 loss for Mobile. Looking to turn their fortunes around, Mobile traveled to Pulaski with the hope of splitting the season series by winning the away game. The Rams would keep this game much more competitive, but would ultimately fall short by 14 points as the Firehawks swept the regular season series against Mobile.

It was a tale of two halves for the Rams as they faced offensive struggles in the first half that saw their second half comeback effort fall short despite outscoring the host team 41-34 across the final two quarters. Jada Johnson shone brightest for the Rams in the opening ten minutes as she tallied 6 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal as the Rams would trail 14-19 heading into the second quarter. During the next quarter, Mobile put up just 8 shot attempts while the hosts took 13 shots. Mobile's Lamaria Jones would be the only scorer for the Rams as she scored all 10 points while the Firehawks made 61.5% of their second quarter shots and 8 of 11 free throws to lead the Rams 45-24 at the half.

Things began to pick up for the team after halftime as Jada Johnson got back on the scoreboard with 8 points while Mariona Pontnou played the full ten minutes, collecting 3 rebounds, 2 points and a block. Heading into the fourth quarter the Rams were still down by 17, but they would give themselves a real chance at getting back into it as they opened up the final quarter on an 13-2 run to cut the lead down to just 6 points. In the end, the Firehawks would build back their lead on a run of their own, ending Mobile's hopes of a comeback as they fell 79-65 on the road.

Deja Pryor, Jada Johnson, and Lamaria Jones all scored double digits against the Firehawks with Johnson recording a double-double in the loss. Taylor Lee would be the only Ram to score multiple three point efforts as she had 8 points, 2 rebound, and 1 steal in just 18 minutes.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams are set to round out their December road games as they travel to face Blue Mountain Christian University on Thursday, December 18th. That game is scheduled for a 5:30pm CT tip-off and can be watched live, for free, on Urban Edge Network!
