Rams Drop Road Game to Toppers

Women's Basketball remains winless in SSAC play

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Competing against an SSAC opponent for the final time in 2025, the Rams were in Blue Mountain, Mississippi as they looked to record their first conference win of the season in their second meeting with the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University. The two sides had already met once this season and it was Blue Mountain who came away with the victory, winning 70-62 in the Pharr Gymnasium back on November 22nd. Heading into the game, Mobile was winless in it's last three meetings with the Toppers including a loss in last year's SSAC Championship Game where the 8 seeded Toppers won 62-53. A Mobile win would not be on the cards however as Blue Mountain would control large stretches of the match to see the Rams fall to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in SSAC play.

The first quarter would be a productive one for the Rams that saw five players get involved in the scoring. The Rams would trail 18-19 after the opening ten minutes were over and Cierra Highland was putting up strong numbers with 4 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals in just 7 minutes. The second quarter saw the Rams take the lead twice as Emilee Duet drained back-to-back free throws to open up the scoring. After the Toppers took back the lead, Duet would put her side back out in front with a successful layup to put them up 22-21. Mobile's lead would be short lived however as the Toppers would take back the lead just 17 seconds later and slowly build up a 5 point lead to take into halftime.

Despite being down 28-33 at the halftime break, Mobile did their best to keep things close in the second half. They closed the gap between the sides down to just 2 points on multiple occasions in the third quarter and pulled back within 3 with just under 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately their efforts would fall short once again as a late surge from the Toppers would push them over the finish line as Mobile suffered their fifth straight defeat. The Rams are now winless in their last four games against the Toppers and winless in SSAC play with 12 more conference games to be played between now and the end of February.

Jada Johnson once again put in a solid performance, ending her night with a 13 point, 10 rebound double-double. Deja Pryor led the scoring against her former team, scoring 14 points in what would be her fourth straight game reaching double digit points. Mariona Pontnou continued her return from injury with a 5 rebound, 2 steal, 1 assist performance in 18 minutes. Taylor Lee would be the only other Ram to reach double digits in points, scoring 11 in the contest.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams will be back at home in the Pharr Gymnasium to round out 2025 as they face Warner University on December 30th. That game is scheduled for a 12:00pm CT tip-off and can be watched live, for free, on Urban Edge Network!
