Women's Basketball Ends 2025 With Home Win Over Warner

Rams pick up first home win of the season in final game of 2025

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - For the final time in 2025, the Pharr Gymnasium played host to NAIA Women's Basketball action as the University of Mobile Rams hosted the Royals of Warner University. The Rams came into the meeting looking to claim their first home win of the season with a 0-5 record at home prior to the contest. The Rams started the day with a 3-12 record, but when the final buzzer rang out, they would improve to 4-12 after a solid 62-54 win over the Royals.

The Rams have had a sluggish start to the 2025-2026 campaign, but their start on Tuesday afternoon would be anything but as they battled hard for control of the lead throughout the first quarter. Taylor Lee would open the scoring for Mobile with a 3-pointer to put them ahead early on. Warner would take the lead back but the Rams would not let up as they would take the lead back twice through the efforts of Lamaria Jones. In the final two minutes of the quarter both sides would trade layups and jump shots for control of the lead with Warner holding a 19-17 lead with just 30 seconds left to go. Deja Pryor would send the teams into the second quarter all tied up after grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back up for two points to end the first 10 minutes tied up at 19 all.

The second quarter would be just as close as the first as there would continue to be nothing that could separate the two sides. The visitors looked like they might begin to break away from the Rams after opening up a 3 point lead with a minute left in the half, but Taylor Lee would cancel out the lead with a deep shot to level things up. Jada Johnson would then knock down two free throws to cancel out a layup by the Royals to send things into the halftime break all tied up at 35-35. Coming out of the halftime break, Warner would have the momentum as back-to-back layups gave the visitors a 4 point lead after a little over a minute had been played. Cierra Highland would put the Rams on the board in the third quarter with a layup as the clock read 6:40 left in the quarter. Neither side would truly get things going on offense in this quarter, but Jada Johnson would give the Rams their first lead of the second half after putting away an effort from distance to put the Rams up 43-41.

As the game entered into the fourth and final quarter, Mobile found themselves in possession of a narrow 1 point lead, but they would make the most of it as they charged their way to a 5 point lead halfway through the quarter. With the Rams taking the largest lead of the afternoon so late in the game, the pressure was on them to hold it, and hold it they would. Mobile would force 9 turnovers and 9 fouls in the final quarter and turn that into 12 points from the line as they outscored Warner 19-12 in the fourth quarter. With a final score of 62-54, the Rams earned their first home win of the season and can move into the new year with a positive outlook on what is set to be a tough schedule with 12 SSAC games remaining between now and the end of February.

Jada Johnson, Taylor Lee, and Deja Pryor all scored double digits in the contest with Johnson leading the way with 16 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block. Five Rams would end the game with 3+ steals in the contest as Jada Johnson, Taylor Lee, Jarniya Maddox, and Emilee Duet racked up 3 steasl while Deja Pryor came away with 4. Overall, Mobile shot 31.3% from the field, 20% from distance, and 70.8% from the line.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams will spend the New Year celebrating their home win before returning to action on January 8th when they travel to New Orleans, Louisiana for a SSAC meeting with Loyola. That game can be watched live, for free, on Urban Edge Network with tip-off scheduled for 5:30pm CT!
