Return to Conference Play Ends in Loss for Women's Basketball

Rams fall in New Orleans to a strong Wolf Pack team

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Starting off the new year on the road, the University of Mobile Women's Basketball team was looking to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season after closing out 2025 with a home victory over Warner. The first test of 2026 would come in the form of the Loyola Wolf Pack who entered the contest 2-1 in SSAC play, while the Rams were in search of their first conference win. In the end though it would be a tough night for Mobile as they would fall 56-96. The Rams are currently one of just two teams in the SSAC who are without a win in conference play, but they sit ahead of Point University in the standings due to holding a better overall record.

The opening quarter of the contest saw the Rams show glimpses of what the team is capable of on offense and defense as they racked up 4 steals and forced 9 turnovers while also leading 11-6 after a little over six minutes. The Rams looked to smother Loyola at every opportunity early on, but the hosts would begin to find the counters as the first quarter closed out 14-12 in favor of Loyola. The second quarter would stay closely matched as Emilee Duet dropped 11 of Mobile's 16 points in the quarter. The Wolf Pack however would begin to open up their lead heading into halftime as they would outscore the Rams again in this quarter to see the Rams trail 28-36 at the break.

Following halftime, things would not get any better for the Rams as Loyola proceeded to dominate the rest of the contest, dropping back-to-back 30 point quarters to consign the Rams to defeat. Mobile would score 11 points in the third and 17 in the fourth, but the efforts would be too little to make a difference as the team fell to 4-13 on the season and 0-6 in SSAC play.

Emilee Duet once again would be one of the standouts for Mobile in the loss, scoring 14 points to lead the team in that category. Deja Pryor would dish out 5 assists to go along with her 8 points while Jada Johnson had 8 rebounds, 7 points, and a block. Mariona Pontnou continued to build back up her minutes as she reached a season high 5 points in her 16 minute appearance off the bench. As a whole, the team shot 28.8% from the field, 11.5% from three, and 61.1% from the free throw line.
