Return to SSAC Action Ends in Loss for Women's Basketball

Rams fall to Faulkner on the road

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -  It was a return to SSAC action for the Rams on Saturday as they traveled up I-65 to face in-state rivals Faulkner University. The Rams returned to SSAC play with an 0-2 record and were looking to get their first conference win of the 2025-2026 season against a 7-2 Eagles team that are receiving votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll. In the end, the win would not come for the Rams as they would fall 43-79 to move them to 3-10 on the season and 0-3 in conference play.

In the opening quarter, Mobile and Faulkner were evenly matched with neither side able to break away from the other. Deja Pryor would give Mobile their only lead of the game at the 5:24 mark in the first after draining a 3-point shot from distance to put Mobile ahead 7-6. The Rams would trail by just one point as they headed into the second quarter where the Eagles would begin to pull away behind strong shooting. The hosts would open up the second quarter on an 11-4 run to put the Rams further behind on the scoreboard. The team would struggle to keep pace with the scoring of the Eagles as the halftime buzzer would sound and the scoreboard read 23-36 in favor of the home team. The second half would not fare much better for the Rams as they would be outscored by 23 points to round out the game with a comfortable Faulkner win. Taylor Lee and Deja Pryor would combine for 12 of Mobile's 14 third quarter points while the fourth quarter saw the Rams get just 6 points on the board as Jarniya Maddox would score half of those.

Deja Pryor would lead all Rams in points with a team-high 14 with 9 of those coming from the free throw line. Taylor Lee was the only other Ram to score in the double digits, contributing 10 to the teams tally while grabbing 5 rebounds and 3 steals. jarniya Maddox led the team in rebounds with 6 to go along with her 5 points. Mariona Pontnou made her season debut after returning from a lengthy stint on the sidelines following a injury suffered last season. She would get her first point of the season as she made 1 of 2 free throws in a ten minute appearance.

Up Next for the Rams

Conference play will continue for the Rams with the team traveling to Pulaski, Tennessee on Tuesday, December 16th to face the Firehawks of UT-Southern. That game is scheduled for a 5:30pm CT tip-off and can be watched live, for free, on Urban Edge Network!
