JACOBS FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader against Thomas University (Ga.) on Feb. 15 at Jacobs Field, wrapping up the three-game conference series on the weekend with a series victory after claiming a 16-15 walk-off win in the opener on Friday night.
The Rams took game one in dominant fashion, securing a 13-6 victory. However, the Night Hawks responded in the nightcap with a 12-8 win to earn the split. The weekend series was named the SSAC Baseball Series of the Week as Mobile improves to 6-5 overall on the year and 2-1 in conference play.
Game 1: Mobile 13, Thomas 6 - 7 Innings
Mobile's offense exploded for 13 runs on 12 hits in the opener, capitalizing on three home runs to power past Thomas. The Rams put up eight runs alone in the second inning of the game, while adding two more runs in the third. Mobile later added three additional runs in the sixth, never relinquishing control of the game despite Thomas' six runs.
Second-year Ram Clint Smith highlighted the offense with a two-homer game, connecting with a three-run shot in the second inning and a solo home run later in the third. Smith finished 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs. Both Zion Taylor and Breyton Cornelius joined Smith with multiple runs driven in across the game one win, with Taylor finishing 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and Cornelius 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
On the mound, Trey Watson earned the win with six innings of work, allowing five earned runs and striking out four. Newcomer Isidro Jimenez shut the door on the Night Hawks and tossed a scoreless seventh inning.Â
Game 2: Thomas 12, Mobile 8
In the second game, Thomas flipped the script, rallying for nine runs between the fifth and seventh innings to take control. Mobile attempted a late comeback but fell short and ended the game with 12 hits. Thomas managed 15 hits in the series finale.
Zion Taylor finished 3-for-5 with a solo homer in the loss, ending his solid weekend 8-for-13 at the plate with nine RBIs and six runs scored in the series. Cameron Brock joined Taylor with a 3-for-5 performance, while both Peyton Bell and Breyton Cornelius finished with a pair of hits. Cornelius led Mobile with three RBIs, coming via a three-run homer in the middle innings.
Mobile used five pitchers in the nightcap, including Bell and Cornelius who combined for four innings of work from out of the 'pen. Bell ended the game for Mobile with 2 2/3 no-hit innings. Ethan McPherson earned the start and threw five innings, allowing four runs and striking out three.

Mobile returns to non-conference action in the next games on the 2025 schedule, coming on midday Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Talladega College (Ala.). Tuesday's doubleheader is set for 11:30 a.m. CT.
