UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - The Rams faced tough opposition on Tuesday afternoon as they faced the now 14-5 Cougars of Saint Xavier, who are currently recieving votes in the most recent NAIA coaches' poll. While Mobile hit well in both matches, they were unable to find the runs to go with it in game one, leading to their loss. Game two played out better for the team, scoring 3 runs and shutting out their opponents to earn the win and split the series.
Game One - Mobile 1, Saint Xavier 6
Mobile would score their lone run of the game in the first inning when Lillie Lanham reached first off of a fielders choice, while Lucy Spisto came home to score. The rest of the game would go in favor of the Cougars as they would drive home 6 runs in the remaining six innings to win game one and their claim their first victory over the Mobile softball team in history. Overall the rams had 8 hits in the match with Lucy Spisto leading the team on offense with 3 hits and a run.
Game Two - Mobile 3, Saint Xavier 0
The Rams would see their fortunes turn around on offense in game two as they picked up the 3-0 win. Mobile would score in the third inning courtesy of a Katelynn Kempton single to left field that brought home Carleigh Bowden. They would add on their final 2 runs in the fifth inning as Kempton would double to center field to score Lucy Spisto, before being brought home herself courtesy of a Lillie Lanham single to right field. Kempton led the team with 2 hits, 2 RBIs, and a run, while Riley Smith pitched a complete game shutout to help Mobile to the win.
Up Next for the Rams
The University of Mobile softball team travels to Montgomery, Alabama on Thursday, March 13 for a conference doubleheader against Faulkner University. They will look to improve their 3-3 conference record, having split all three of their conference series so far this season.
