WYNN FIELD | MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of Mobile Softball team was on the road on Friday as they faced off against Faulkner University for a conference doubleheader. The Rams, who currently sit at #22 in the most recent NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, were able to get the best of the Eagles in both games as they brought home two well earned wins.
Game One - Mobile 10, Faulkner 7 - 10 Innings
Faulkner and Mobile fought hard against each other in game one which had to be decided in extra innings. The Rams would open the scoring and lead the game until the fifth inning when a 3 RBI homer switched possession of the lead over the to Eagles. Mobile would level things up in the sixth inning before taking back the lead in the seventh until Faulkner tied it back up at 7-7 to send it to extras. The two sides would stay locked at 7-7 until the tenth inning where Mobile hit three RBI singles courtesy of Lucy Spisto, Lillie Lanham, and Madilyn Sheffield to take the lead and the win in game one. Avery Harrell picked up the win from the pitcher position after coming in during the seventh inning.
Game Two - Mobile 5, Faulkner 4
Game two between these sides was able to be settled in the traditional seven innings. Mobile and Faulkner traded the lead several times throughout the match with Mobile ultimately scoring the game winning run in the fourth inning off of an error by the Eagles second baseman that allowed Gracie Mitchell to run home and score. Mitchell would end the game with 2 runs, 2 hits, an RBI and a walk. Katelynn Kempton would earn the pitching win for Mobile after coming in for Harrell in the third inning.
Up Next for the Rams
For the University of Mobile Softball team, they will face United States Sports University in a home doubleheader on Wednesday, March 19 at 12:00pm CT. The Rams are 16-7 overall this season with a 5-3 record in the SSAC.
