POWELL ATHLETIC CENTER | CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team saw their season come to an end on Friday evening as they dropped out of the NAIA National Championship Tournament following a 69-82 loss to the Eagles of Williams Baptist (Ark). The loss marks an early end to another impressive season for the Rams under the leadership of second year head coach Sydney Westry whose record now stands at 48-16.
How Things Unfolded
Things never really got going for Mobile, with the team spending most of the game trailing the Eagles. Mobile would score their first points of the evening a fourth of the way through the first quarter. The Rams would find themselves down 17-14 after 10 minutes having gone 0-4 on three point shots and 6-14 on field goals. During the second quarter, Mobile saw their offensive efficiency slump down as the Eagles capitalized to extend their lead over the Rams to 10 points at halftime. Mobile shot 4-16 in the second quarter with Luisa Monsalve scoring the Rams first three pointer of the evening.
After Halftime, the game truly got away from Mobile as the Eagles put up 27 points compared to Mobile's 14 to take a commanding lead into the fourth quarter. Monsalve and Halle Verkerk led Mobile with 4 points each in the quarter. The Rams would try to stage a comeback in the final ten minutes but it was too far gone for them as their 27 point fourth quarter could not get them back into the game. Overall, Alanna Donaldson would lead the Rams with 19 points in the game while Miriam Oldacre added on 12 herself.
Up Next for the Rams
With the Loss, the Women's Basketball team ends their season with a 22-9 record overall. Heading into the off season, the program says goodbye to several players who are set to graduate in May. Women's Basketball will return to the University of Mobile in the Fall semester of 2025.
