UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - As the regular season begins to wind down for the University of Mobile Softball team, they are showing no signs of letting up as they try to build form for the upcoming SSAC Softball Championship Tournament. With the team coming off the back of a doubleheader split with William Carey, Mobile prepared for a rare Monday home meeting with non-conference opponents Louisiana Christian. In what ended up as a sweep in favor of Mobile, the Rams took game one 4-3 and followed it up with a 3-1 win in game two to send the Wildcats home empty handed. The Rams are now 27-13 on the season with just six games remaining in their schedule.
Game One - Mobile 4, Louisiana Christian 3
The first match of the doubleheader was a close one that saw both sides hold possession of the lead throughout the contest. The Wildcats would get it started in the first inning with a double to right field that saw the first run of the game be scored. Mobile would answer back with two runs of their own in the first courtesy of Lillie Lanham and Heather Knowles both hitting singles to the outfield. Mobile would take a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning with Miah Simmons reaching home after Carleigh Bowden grounded out to first base. LCU would tie it up at 3-3 in the fifth on a double to right center that saw two runs score. With the game tied in the sixth inning, the Rams found a way to get back out in front when Gracie Mitchell hit a single down the left field line to bring home Madeline Houk for the winning run. Riley Smith got the start for the Rams in the match, but the win would go to Avery Harrell for her two innings of work that saw the team take the lead.
Game Two - Mobile 3, Louisiana Christian 1
Game two of the doubleheader was an even lower scoring match with just 4 runs scored between the two teams. The Rams took control of the lead in the fourth inning with Erin Degruise scoring after a sacrifice bunt from Caitlin Lanham. Carleigh Bowden hit a single up the middle to score Heather Knowles before Gracie Mitchell doubled down the left field line to score Bowden. Louisiana Christian would get one back in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as Mobile would run out as 3-1 winners with the sweep. Katelynn Kempton earned the win for Mobile as she threw all seven innings for the Rams.
