Softball Goes 2-2 on Weekend Road Trip

Mobile Sits in Tie for Fourth Place in SSAC Standings

PULASKI, TENNESSEE / BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The University of Mobile Softball team went 2-2 over the past weekend having faced off against UT-Southern and Blue Mountain Univeristy. Mobile now sits at 29-15 overall this season with a conference record of 13-11 which leaves them in a three-way tie for 4th place in the conference standings.

UT-Southern Recap

For the Rams, the two matches against UT-Southern did not go their way as they dropped both matches to the Firehawks. Game one saw Mobile fall 1-8 with Gracie Mitchell scoring the only run on a passed ball. They were able to put nine hits on the board in the match, but unable to generate the runs necessary to keep pace with their opponents. Game two was a similar story, with the Rams outhitting their opponents 14-11, but they were unable to put the runs on the board like their opponents. Mobile had the lead of the game heading into the 6th inning, but a tying run came for the Firehawks and the two sides ended up going to extra innings. With Mobile unable to take the lead in the top of the 8th, the Firehawks capitalized and hit a walk-off grand slam to win 7-3. Mobile dropped to 27-15 after the two losses with a trip to Blue Mountain next on their schedule.

Blue Mountain Recap

Just one day later on Friday, the Rams were back at it once again as they took on the Toppers of Blue Mountain. It was an easy 2-0 win for the team as they outhit their opponents 8-2. Riley Smith picked up the win from the pitchers circle having pitched a complete game. Gracie Mitchell scored on a Miah Simmons ground out to the second baseman while Lucy Spisto would come home on a wild pitch. Game two of the series was more of the same as the Rams had 10 hits in the contest and ran out as 5-2 winners. An error by the short stop allowed Carleigh Bowden to score in the second inning before Madilyn Sheffield and Katelynn Kempton came home to score in the third inning. In the sixth inning, Bethany Dean scored on a sinlge through the left side by Spisto before she would come around to score on a double to left center by Simmons. Kempton picked up the win having pitched for six and a third innings.
