WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The University of Mobile softball team opened play at the 2025 NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round on Monday, May 12, with a hard-fought 4–3 loss to Texas A&M University – Texarkana. Originally scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. ET first pitch, the game didn't begin until approximately 10:00 p.m. due to severe weather delays, pushing the conclusion into early Tuesday morning.

Mobile trailed 3–0 after five innings but showed late-game resilience to even the score in the seventh. The rally began in the sixth when Lillie Lanham put Mobile on the board with an RBI single. In the seventh, the Rams tied the game 3–3 after a leadoff single by Carleigh Bowden and a two RBI double from Madilyn Sheffield.
Texarkana responded in the bottom of the seventh, stringing together two extra-base hits to plate the walk-off run and hand Mobile its first loss of the double-elimination bracket.
Katelynn Kempton and Riley Smith combined in the circle, with Kempton working 5.2 innings and recording five strikeouts. Sheffield finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while L. Lanham collected one hit and drove in one.
Up Next for the Rams
Mobile (32–19) will face Cornerstone University (Mich.) in an elimination game on Tuesday, May 13, at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Rams must win to keep their postseason hopes alive.
