Volleyball Picks Up SSAC Win Against UT-Southern

Rams defeat Firehawks in 4 set contest

PULASKI, Tenn. - The University of Mobile volleyball team traveled to Pulaski, Tennessee on Friday afternoon for an SSAC conference matchup against UT-Southern. The Rams and Firehawks would split the first two sets before the Rams pulled away to secure a four set victory over their conference opponents.

The two sides went back and forth in the match with the Rams picking up a 25-19 win in set one before dropping set two 16-25. With the two sides split at one set a piece, set three commenced with both sides battling back and forth for the lead to start before Mobile jumped out to a 17-11 lead. Following a timeout for the home side, they closed the gap on Mobile to just 2 points before the Rams scored 5 straight points to close out set three, 25-18. Set four saw the Rams take authority of the game and secure the overall win, taking set four 25-14.

The Rams had 53 kills on a .250 hitting percentage while also leading their opponents in the digs column 67-54. Senior Libero Jaci Drinnon led all players with 27 digs, while freshman Hope Blaylock chipped in with 11 digs. Corrina Porch-Maxey led all players with 14 kills with teammate Peyton Frazer not far behind her with 10 kills in the win. As normal, the Rams' saw setting duties split between Emma McPherson, who recorded 27 assists, and Hannah Ellis, who chipped in with 20 assists.

Mobile (12-1, 4-1 SSAC) will continue SSAC play tomorrow, September 20th, when they travel to Blue Mountain, Mississippi to face Blue Mountain Christian at 1:00 p.m. CT.
