THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The University of Mobile women's soccer team closed out the Labor Day Tournament on Monday, Sept. 1, with a dominant 5-0 victory over New College of Florida in Thomasville, Georgia. The win moves the Rams to 3-1-0 on the season.
Mobile started the match on the front foot, putting away three goals before halftime. The Rams opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Elke Fernandez found the back of the net off an assist from Ariana Taylor. Just five minutes later, Natalie Burt doubled the lead, finishing a feed from Kaithlyn Chavez in the 29th minute. Chavez then added a goal of her own in the 37th minute, to make it 3-0.
The Rams maintained control through the second half before sealing the victory late with two quick goals. Sadie Sparks buried an unassisted strike in the 88th minute, and Charlotte Malamaire capped the scoring with another unassisted effort in the final minute.
Defensively, Mobile kept the Mighty Banyans from finding any rhythm, recording their second shutout of the season.
Up Next for the Rams
The Rams return home to compete in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 4, at 5:00 p.m. CT against Talladega College.
