Mobile Defeats Talladega College 7-3 in Home Opener

Rams win 10 goal thriller in The Jungle

MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile women's soccer team lit up the scoreboard Thursday evening in their home opener at The Jungle, outlasting the Talladega Tornadoes in a 10-goal contest to earn a 7-3 victory. With the win, the Rams improved to 4-1-0 on the season.

The match started with early fireworks. In the 22nd minute, Andrei Kaithlyn Chavez opened the scoring, assisted by Ariana Taylor. Talladega responded quickly to even the score, but Mobile regained control when Andi Hughes netted her first of three goals in the 32nd minute off a setup from Izzy Allred.

After another equalizer from the Tornadoes, Mobile surged ahead for good in the second half. Kaitlyn Skrove gave the Rams a 3-2 lead just 54 seconds after the restart, heading in a corner from Chavez. Hughes doubled the advantage minutes later with a converted penalty kick before Skrove struck again in the 53rd minute, once more off a Chavez corner delivery.

Talladega cut the deficit to 5-3, but the Rams closed the door with Hughes completing her hat trick in the 64th minute (assisted by Natalie Burt) and Jil Hellerforth scoring her first goal of the season in the 83rd to seal the 7-3 result.

Defensively, Alisa Johnson anchored the right side, breaking up multiple attacks while also pressing forward to create space in transition. Goalkeeper Sarah Polk recorded three saves in the victory.

Mobile outshot Talladega 18-9 and earned 14 corners in a dominant offensive showing.
