Women's Soccer Puts on Dominant Performance Against Blue Mountian

Rams defeat the Toppers 15-0 in home SSAC match

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile women's soccer team faced off against Blue Mountain yesterday evening in a match that was heavily delayed by inclement weather in the Mobile, Alabama area. What was originally scheduled as a 5:00pm CT kickoff, quickly turned into a 6:30pm CT start time. The Rams and the Toppers would both come back out onto the field and go through shortened warm up routines following the end of the final weather delay.

Mobile controlled the match from the opening minutes, with the first goal being scored by Natalie Burt in just under 2 minutes. It wouldnt be much longer before the flood gates opened up as Ariana Taylor doubled the lead in the 6th minute as Elke Fernandez picked up the assist. Fernandez would immediately turn around and score herself in the 7th minute with Andi Hughes playing the assist role. Andi Hughes scored in the 11th minute before Kaithlyn Chavez took control of the match with two goals scored back to back in the 16th and 17th minute to make it 6-0 to the Rams. That goal would signal the end of the day for several Rams including Chavez as Head Coach Brian Person made a flurry of substitutions midway through the first half.

Second year Ram, Jil Hellerforth, would get the scoring going again in the 29th minute with Evellyn Borges providing the assist. Borges followed it up with a goal of her own in the 31st minute, with Hellerforth doubling her goal tally in the 37th. Nettie Cantey joined in on the goalscoring party in the 38th minute with Lanie Shaw working hard down the right hand side of the field to provide the assist. Charlotte Malamaire would cap off the first half scoring in the 45th minute after winning the ball back in the Toppers box and ricocheting the ball off the inside of the near post.

During halftime, an agreement was met by the head coaches and referees to shorten the second half to just 25 minutes, with the game concluding after a total of 70 minutes played.

Both sides returned to the field for the shortened second half with the Rams leading 11-0. Mobile would not waste much time, scoring in the 49th minute with Nicole Fabbruzzo feeding Becca Ryan for the goal. Maya Tait added on in the 51st minute with an assist from Olivia Gautreaux. In the 56th minute, Lucy Allen found herself dancing past defenders and making her way into the Toppers box, where she was brought down and given a penalty. Allen would make no mistakes from the penalty spot, burying the effort in the lower left corner of the goal to make it 14-0. Almost ten minutes would go by before the Rams scored their final goal of the evening, with Gautreaux rifling in an effort from distance over the goalkeeper, making it 15-0.

The Mobile goalkeeper union did not find themselves called into action in the match, with Sarah Polk, Alison Soto, and Kloe Ernst all having quiet nights with no saves required of them. They would have their defence ahead of them to thank for that as the Toppers were unable to get a single shot off during the match.
