Men's Soccer Gets Back to Their Winning Ways

Mobile defeats UT-Southern 4-0 in SSAC matchup

THE JUNGLE | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile men's soccer team picked up a much needed win over UT-Southern on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Firehawks 4-0 in a strong home display. For Mobile, it is their first win since September 1st, a 3-0 home win over Spartanburg Methodist College.

Having to quickly forget the result from Thursday night's match against Blue Mountain, the Rams came in to the match looking to turn their fortunes around in a hope to salvage something from the season. Almost immediately after kickoff, Jeb Scarbrough would get the home crowd on their feet and the Rams in a positive spirit. He would break away through the center of the Firehawks defense on a pass from Eugenio Cazares before striking the ball past the goalkeeper into the left side netting, making it 1-0. Joe McMahon doubled the lead in the 9th minute, burying a penalty kick following a handball by an opposing defender. Rounding out the first half scoring would be Cazares who scored Mobile's third goal in the 39th minute after racing onto a great pass from Oscar Hartley.

Mobile would become more defensive in the second half as they tried to hold onto their 3-0 lead. The Firehawks would grow into the match outshooting the Rams 13-2 in the second half. Despite the difference in shots, it would be the Rams who would score, adding on goal number four in the 66th minute with Joe McMahon converting from the penalty spot for the second time of the day.

Sam MacDonald had a great afternoon, with the Mobile goalkeeper making 6 saves and securing the clean sheet for Mobile's first SSAC win of the 2025 season.

Up Next for the Rams

Mobile (2-6, 1-1) will now turn their attention to October 2nd when they travel to Thomasville, Georgia to face the Nighthawks of Thomas University at 4:00pm CT.
