Volleyball Takes Two Victories from Saturday Doubleheader

Rams defeat Point and Xavier to close out September

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile volleyball team picked up two wins on Saturday, sweeping Point University in 3 sets before battling to a 3-1 win over Xavier. The wins push Mobile to 14-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play. With men's and women's soccer also in action at home at the same time as Volleyball, former Director of Sports Information and Media Relations, David Haney was asked to come back to the Pharr Gymnasium to broadcast the matches, treating fans who tuned in to watch on Urban Edge Network to a familiar voice with a great love for the program.

Mobile vs. Point Recap: (3-0 | 25-17, 25-19, 29-27)

The Rams opened up the day with an 11:00am CT meeting with Point University where the Rams would eventually run out as 3-0 victors. Point University put up a fight in the 3rd set, pushing the score to extra points with Mobile eventually sealing the match with a 29-27 set win. Corrina Porch-Maxey was phenomenal in the match, racking up 17 kills on a .467 hitting percentage. Hannah Ellis and Emma McPherson both served up plenty of assists with 24 and 27 respectively. Jaci Drinnon led the team with 17 digs while also serving up 2 aces.

Mobile vs. Xavier Recap: (3-1 | 25-17, 26-28, 25-20, 25-22)

After beating Point, Mobile would have a break before their next match, with Xavier and Point playing each other at 1:00pm CT. Mobile and Xavier would get things kicked off with an intense four set match ensuing. The Rams would take the first set 25-17 with the team going on three 4+ point runs during the set. Set two was a close affair between the two teams with Xavier eventually edging out a 28-26 win to force a fourth set in the match. Sets three and four would both go to the Rams as they would close out a 3-1 win over their opponents to make it a 2-0 day. Hannah Ellis and Emma McPherson continued their good days as they both matched their assist totals from the early match in the day. Sophie Dorris put on a strong hitting performance with 13 kills on a .313 hitting percentage while also adding 4 block assists. Emily Osborne put up a staggering 9 block assists in the match while also collecting 5 kills. The big story of the day however would be Jaci Drinnon with 39 digs which was enough to see her surpass the 1000 digs mark in her Mobile career. In just one and a half seasons, Drinnon has collected 1014 digs and sits just 158 digs behind former Ram and previous Libero Lexi Gillette.
