PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. – Following a tough overtime loss to William Carey, the University of Mobile Rams Men's Basketball team was able to prevail in a hard-fought win over Point University on Thursday night, 80-74. Down two at halftime, the Rams were able to pull away from a back and forth battle with the Skyhawks. The Rams now improve to 4-13 overall, and boast a 4-4 conference record. The Rams will find themselves standing at 5th place in the SSAC West standings heading into Saturday's matchup against Brewton Parker.
It was Dayton Richardson who started off the game with a bang, hitting a 3 to jump start a big scoring run for the Rams. For the first 14 minutes of their matchup against the Skyhawks, the Rams were dominant. However, there was a valiant effort made by the Skyhawks as they tried to will themselves back into the game. Mobile found themselves up as much as 16 points before letting Point back into the game just before halftime, to which they trailed 39-37 going into the locker rooms.
The halftime adjustments proved to be vital to wake the Rams up in the second half. One such adjustment was the addition of Mo Kamara, despite not being in the starting 5. Kamara couldn't be stopped in the first few minutes of the second half, dominating the paint and beyond the arc. The Rams proceeded to tear through the Skyhawks defense, building up a 12 point lead. Impactful plays such as Zion Hunter's dunk and three pointers from fan favorite Kris Vasilev and Oliver Boyle led the way. While the Skyhawks did make an effort to put out the Rams' fire, it wasn't enough, and the Rams were able to seal things away by Aahmod Scarbrough making four total free throws from the line in the last 12 seconds.
Scarbrough led the way in scoring for Mobile, with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Zion Hunter also had himself a game, putting up 15 points, adding on 7 rebounds, and assist, and a block. Mo Kamara also contributed 13 points and 6 rebounds.
