PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. - The Mobile Rams Men's Basketball team couldn't quite continue their winning ways, falling to the Barons of Brewton-Parker Christian by a final score of 77-90 on Saturday afternoon. It was a tense showdown between the two teams, with emotions getting high between the Rams and Barons at times. These two teams battled it out all game, with neither team trailing by more than five at any point during the game until just under 10 minutes left in regulation. With this loss to the Barons, the Rams are 4-14 and find themselves in 5th place in the SSAC West, holding a 4-5 conference record.
It was an electric first half at the Pharr Gymnasium, with both teams shooting above 40%. This game proved to be a back and forth battle, with both teams heading into the locker rooms tied at 34 a piece. Of those 34 points for Mobile, Mason Sword contributed 14 of them as he continuously kept the Rams in the game and pulled them ahead on multiple occasions despite the opposing Barons shooting nearly 60% from the field as a team. Aahmod Scarbrough also put together 8 first half points, with 6 of those coming from beyond the arc.
Both teams came back out onto the floor not losing a beat from the previous 20 minutes, with even more continuous lead changes. The game even got to the point of chippiness, with both teams being issued warnings, and words being exchanged from both sides after two players got tangled up with the ball. Aahmod Scarbrough came onto the floor in the second half with a hot hand, adding 20 points to his total, as well as going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. The Rams tried to will themselves back into the game with shots from deep range, shooting 45% from three in the second half. However, each three pointer was answered with the Barons making a basket of their own, with their play beyond the arc making a big difference in the game, and eventually the deficit would be too much for the Rams to make up, losing out with a final score of 77-90.
Aahmod Scarbrough found himself as the leading scorer for this showdown, going 10-for-16 with 28 points (6-for-8 from three), as well as 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Mason Sword went for a total of 25 points, plus two steals and a block.
