Rams Fall on the Road to SUNO in 2OT

Men's Basketball falls to 4-15 with tough road loss

NEW ORLEANS, La. - It was a tough night on the road for the Mobile Men's Basketball team as they faced Southern University of New Orleans. The Rams headed into the contest with a 4-14 record on the season, coming up against a Knights side with an 8-11 record. Mobile would find themselves trailing for much of the night and despite making a comeback in the second half to force overtime, the Rams could not overpower the host side, falling 87-90 in double overtime.

Mobile's Zion Hunter would open up the scoring in the game, knocking down a jump shot while getting fouled, before going to the line and converting the free throw. Aahmod Scarbrough would add on another 2 points to Mobile's tally on the next possession before a strong run from the Knights through the middle portion of the half opened up a large lead for the hosts. Mobile's largest deficit of the game came with 5:03 left to play before halftime as they trailed by 15 points. Mobile's Jalen Bright would score 7 points in those final five minutes as the Rams cut the lead down to just 6 points at halftime.

In the second half, both side jostled back and forth for the lead, with Mobile eventually claiming their first lead since early in the first half. The Rams would lead by as much as 6 points, but their lead would be short lived, as the Knights would storm back to take the lead into the final minute of regulation. With just 22 second left to go, Zion Hunter would draw a foul before stepping to the line and making both free throws to tie things up at 72-72. Following a missed free throw at the other end for SUNO, Mobile had an opportunity to take the game for themselves, but an unfortunate turnover would see things end level as overtime would be needed to separate the two teams.

In the first period of overtime, Zion Hunter would do it all, scoring each of Mobile's 8 points as he kept the Rams alive on their way to a second round of overtime. The heroics would not continue for the Rams a second time around with SUNO getting too much of a lead, leaving the Rams just short of their opponents on the scoreboard. Mobile would fall 87-90 in double overtime with their overall record dropping to 4-15.

Zion Hunter lead the scoring for his sdie with 31 points, 9 rebounds, 4 steals, and an assist. Aahmod Scarbrough would finish the game on a double-double, while being just 2 rebounds shy of a triple double with his stat line reading 11 points, 12 assists, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals. Jalen Bright was impressive off the bench scoring 14 points while Mason Sword scored 18 in his role as a starter.
