PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile Rams Men's Basketball team hosted the reigning SSAC tournament champions, the Running Eagles of Life University, on Saturday afternoon, and it was a neck-and-neck battle the whole way through. The Rams looked to enact their revenge on the team they lost to in the SSAC semifinals last season, but couldn't quite pull away, falling by a final score of 59-61. The two point differential proved to be their closest game yet for this 2025-26 season, holding their ground against the same Running Eagles team that stands atop first place in the SSAC East. Meanwhile, the Rams fall to 5-17 overall, with a 5-6 overall conference record. They will be in fifth place in the SSAC West heading into their next game on January 29th.
The Rams started off Saturday's game on a hot streak, finding themselves up as much as 10 points within the first 10 minutes of action. The Running Eagles were certainly running around trying to find answers to stop the Rams, who were marking their territory all around the court. While the Rams put up impressive first half numbers, making just over half of their shots from the field and shooting 63.6% from three, the Running Eagles were able to pull themselves back within striking distance. The Eagles ended up shooting 52.4% from the field, and stared at a seven point deficit heading into the second half.
Mobile came back out onto the court in the second half looking to carry on with their lead, but it would not last for long. Depite the Rams holding their largest lead of the day (13 points) with just over 14 minutes to play, they let the Running Eagles back into the game yet again. The Eagles were able to push themselves past Mobile into lead with 8:41 left in regulation. However, the drama didn't end there. The two teams went through multiple lead changes, but a basket by Life with 10 seconds left was the dagger. The Rams went down the court to try and win on a deep 3-point attempt, but Mason Sword's shot wasn't able to go in. Other than Zion Hunter's 13 points, the Rams couldn't find ways to score offensively in the second half. They found themselves drastically flipping their shooting numbers from the first half, shooting 30.8% from the field, and 27.3% from three.
At the end of the day, the Rams put on a very strong showing offensively. A tight game featured the Rams putting up three players with double digit scoring efforts. Zion Hunter finished with 22 points and 3 steals, with the previously mentioned 13 points coming in the second half. Aahmod Scarbrough ended his afternoon with 14 points, adding in 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Lastly, Mason Sword contributed 10 total points, and Kris Vasilev made his presence known with 7 points and 8 rebounds.
