Rams Drop Final Home Game of January

Mobile falls to Life; Moves to 2-8 in SSAC

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile Rams were back in action at home once again as the took on the Running Eagles of Life University inside the Pharr Gymnaisum. For Mobile, they entered the contest looking to pick up their third straight win after defeating Point and Brewton-Parker in their last two outings. However, the visiting Running Eagles would spoil any chance of continuing the win streak, with Mobile falling 59-72 as they see their conference record slide to 2-8.

The first quarter scoring was sluggish with the Rams scoring just 1 point, courtesy of a free throw by Albanie Dixon, up until the 2:58 second mark. It would be Cierra Highland who would score Mobile's first open-play points as she cut to the basket for a lay-up. With under three minutes to play in the quarter, the Rams started to string together some points but could not get the stops needed at the defensive end. Two lay-ups by Hannan Benoit and an end of the quarter free throw by Cierra Highland rounded out the score 21-8 with the visitors in front.

The second quarter had a solid start with another Cierra Highland lay-up cutting the lead for Life to 11 points. With 5:39 to go in the quarter, McKenna Sinon slashed the defense and made a lay-up off an assist by Deja Pryor. Jada Johnson and Lamaria Jones both got 2 points of their own to end off the quarter with the halftime score showing a 46-22 lead for Life University. The third quarter had an exciting start as Jada Johnson splashed a 3-pointer. With just over three minutes to play in the 3rd quarter, Emilee Duet made a 2-point jump shot with the next possession being a fast break and kick out 3-pointer by Taylor Lee. The Rams headed into the 4th quarter trailing 61-38.

In the 4th quarter, Hannah Benoit made an immediate lay-up and secured the and-1 opportunity. The Rams cut the lead down to 20 and were still fighting. Loralee Faulkner checked into the game and got to work immediately down low making a finger roll lay-up. Two possessions later, Emilee Duet made a much needed 3-pointer. The Rams were playing hard on defense trying to keep up with the Running Eagles. With 3:10 to go, Taylor Lee drained another 3-point shot with Emilee Duet following it up with a 3-pointer of her own on the following possession. After two 3-pointers in a row, Taylor Lee got back into the paint and scored a lay-up as the Rams kept cutting into the lead. Despite the best efforts of the Rams, the comeback would fall short as they would fall to Life with a final score of 59-72. Mobile showcased their willingness to fight to the end and never give up even when the odds seem stacked against them.

Up Next for the Rams

The Rams will round out the month of January with a 2 game road trip starting at Thomas University on Thursday, January 29th.
