Mobile Sees Defeat at Hands of Crusaders

Women's Basketball falls to William Carey for the second time this season

PHARR GYMNASIUM | MOBILE, Ala. – The University of Mobile Women's Basketball season is quickly coming to a close as they played their second to last regular season game on Saturday afternoon against rivals William Carey University. The Rams were up against it in this match, facing a Crusaders side that ranks as #18 in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, with the last meeting between the sides resulting in a landslide victory for the Crusaders. But with that game in the past, and the Rams a much better side than they were when they last met, Mobile looked to turn their fortunes around by stealing a win over the Crusaders.

It would be a slow start to the game for Mobile, as their first basket would not come until the 5:33 mark in the first quarter, when Taylor Lee hit a jumper to open her account. Back-to-back lay-ups for Lamaria Jones and Cierra Highland would follow up Lee's jumper as the Rams began to settle into the game. Towards the end of the first quarter, Taylor Lee would drive into the paint and bag two more points on a lay-up while Emilee Duet got herself in the scorer's book with a lay-up of her own.

The second quarter saw a 3-pointer from Deja Pryor to get Mobile started, but the Crusaders would keep the Rams quiet for much of this one as the next basket would not come until less than four minutes before halftime. Cierra Highland drove in and secured the lay-up while, on the next possession, Jada Johnson got 2 points of her own after driving down the lane. Cierra Highland and Deja Pryor would make some free throws to close out the first half scoring for the Rams. The third quarter got off to another slow start for the Rams as Hannah Benoit would score her first points of the evening halfway through the quarter. With 3:32 left to go, Jada Johnson got herself another lay-up before scoring again on a jumper after a steal by Cierra Highland.

The final quarter saw Emilee Duet make a few free throws before Taylor Lee put away a 3-pointer. Deja Pryor would record a steal before driving the lane and getting fouled. She would make both free throws to add to her point total. Emilee Duet and Taylor Lee would continue adding to their point totals down the final stretch. In the end, the Rams would fall 54-87 with just one more game to play in the regular season.

Deja Pryor had 7 points with a steal and 2 rebounds. Jada Johnson had 9 points with a steal and 4 rebounds. Cierra Highland had 14 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Taylor Lee had 10 points and a pair of 3-pointers.
