World Series Bound! Softball Books Their Ticket to Columbus, Georgia

Rams defeat Eastern Oregon for second time in two days to win Opening Round Championship

UM SOFTBALL FIELD | MOBILE, Ala. - For the first time since 2022, the University of Mobile Softball Rams are World Series Bound! In the epic conclusion to an NAIA Softball Champiosnhip Opening Round tournament that went all the way to Friday, Mobile defeated Eastern Oregon University for the second time in two days as the claimed the final ticket to next week's NAIA Softball World Series in Columbus, Georgia. The last time Mobile made the World Series, the Rams made it all the way to the championship game where they fell 0-3 to the Stars of Oklahoma City University to finish the year as runners-up with an overall record of 52-4.

Mobile will be the #4 seed in Columbus, being just one of four #1 seed teams to advance past the opening round. The other teams joining the Rams at the World Series are listed in order of seeding as follows: #1 Madonna (Mich.), #2 Southeastern (Fla.), #3 Southern Oregon, #5 OLLU (Texas), #6 Cumberlands, #7 College of Idaho, #8 Indiana Wesleyan, #9 Marian (Ind.), and #10 British Columbia.

With a 10:00am start on Friday morning, the Rams quickly found themselves behind as the Mountaineers took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run over the center field wall. As the game moved into the bottom of the first, momentum quickly moved over to the Rams as Kaitlynn Robertson and Lillie Lanham would both record RBI singles to take a 2-1 lead. Mobile would leave the bases loaded in that inning, leaving the door open for Eastern Oregon in the top of the third to pull back ahead on another home run, with 3 runs scoring for the opposition as the Rams fell behind 2-4. It would take until the bottom of the fourth for the Rams to answer back, and Kaitlynn Robertson would once again make herself known as she doubled down the right field line to score both Daryelin Rivas and Diana Arcay. Gracie Mitchell would also continue her stellar week, bringing Robertson home for the lead on a single to the shortstop. From there on out, relief pitcher Katelynn Kempton and the Mobile defense would keep Eastern Oregon scoreless to the end. The Rams would break out into jubilation as the third out of the top of the seventh fell safely into the glove of Diana Arcay out in left field, with the bench rushing out of the dugout to celebrate with their team in the infield. With the Opening Round Championship claimed, the real tournament begins as Mobile and the 9 other Opening Round champions set to battle it out for the Red Banner in Columbus, Georgia from May 21-27.
