Mobile's Fourth Quarter Comeback Leads to Season Opening Win

Rams Defeat Dillard at Home Behind Late Comeback

MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Women's Basketball team hosted Dillard University on Saturday, Oct. 23 for the Rams' first game of the 2021-22 season. In Saturday evening's game, Mobile trailed the Bleu Devils after the first three quarters, but managed a fourth quarter comeback to secure the low-scoring win, 39-31.

After scoring just 16 points in the first half, Mobile managed to put up 17 points in the fourth quarter alone to defeat the Bleu Devils. Defense was also strong in the fourth quarter for the Rams as Dillard was only allowed three points in the final 10 minutes.

Mobile newcomer Breannah McCullah led the way for the Rams offensively, scoring a team-high nine points in the low-scoring affair. McCullah shot 50% from the floor, making just three-point shots in the victory. She finished with three rebounds. Freshman Mackenzie White recorded seven points in the win, joining McCullah with three rebounds. White was one of five Rams to record two steals on Saturday.

Erica Jones finished second on the team in scoring from off the bench. Jones recorded eight points on Saturday while mixing in five rebounds. Both Artasia McDowell, the reigning SSAC Defensive Player of the Year, and Miya Kimber joined Jones in leading Mobile with five rebounds in the win. McDowell scored four points and managed a team-high four assists while Kimber finished with three points and three assists.

As a team, Mobile shot just 30% from the floor and 50% from the free-throw line, numbers that fourth-year head coach Erika Stuckman would like to see improved in their next scheduled game.

The Rams return to the court on Tuesday, Oct. 26 for a home game against Ave Maria University at 5:30 p.m. CT.
