MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Men's Basketball team earned their second conference win of the season by defeating Middle Georgia State on Saturday in Pharr Gymnasium, 87-71. The win for Mobile marks their second-straight victory as the team improves their overall record to 8-11 on the season and 2-5 in SSAC action.
In Saturday's win, Mobile put together another nice offensive day, recording a 56% shooting percentage from the floor. With the exception of the first made shot of the game by Middle Ga. State, the Rams never trailed in the game and never saw the lead fall under five points in the second half. "Today's game was a total team effort and it was nice to see the team put together almost a complete game vs. a good Middle Georgia State team," Mobile Head Coach Darnell Archey said following the win. He continued, "We have had our issues in the past in putting teams away, but we have continued to talk about finishing the right way and we did that today."
Gary Jefferson led all scorers on Saturday, recording 25 points and making nine of 17 shot attempts. Jefferson made four three-point shots in the win and mixed in three rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal. Logan Foutz and Tadeas Manas joined Jefferson with double-digit point totals as they each scored 13 points in the victory.
Joshua Williams put together a historic game on Saturday, recording a double-double with 14 points and 15 assists. Williams was one rebound shy of a triple-double as his 15 assists tied a school record in most assists recorded in one game. He tied former Ram Nate Houston for the record. Williams now averages 16.1 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, and 5.0 assists per game. His averages currently leads the team.
"I was really impressed with our ability to share the ball, make the right read, and deliver the pass on time and on target," said Darnell Archey. He was very impressed with the team basketball the Rams put together in their win over the Knights. "Incredible stat is that we had 27 assists on 33 field goals; that is what you call team basketball!"
Mobile will look to make it three-straight wins in their next outing as the Rams will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. on Monday, Jan. 17 for an evening game against William Carey University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.
