BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - The University of Mobile Men's Soccer team concluded the 2022 regular season on Thursday evening, Oct. 27 with a 5-1 victory over the Blue Mountain College Toppers in Blue Mountain, Miss. The win improves Mobile's overall record to 12-2-1 on the season, with their conference record moving to 6-2-0 on the year.
Additionally, Mobile has earned the third seed of the upcoming SSAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament and the right to host a first-round matchup next Friday afternoon against the sixth seed of the tournament, which will either be Faulkner University or the Toppers of Blue Mountain. Next Friday's start time is TBA.
Rams Bounce Back with Impressive Win
Following a tough loss at home to No. 12 William Carey this past weekend, the Rams answered back with a victory at the Toppers' expense on Thursday. The Rams dominated the shot chart against Blue Mountain, tallying 28 total shots in the match. 18 of Mobile's 28 shots were on target, with five being goals. Meanwhile, Blue Mountain only mustered two shots across the full 90 minutes.
Lucas Ros got the Rams on the scoreboard first in the regular season finale, notching his team-high 10th goal of the season. Ros later connected with his 11th goal of the year coming in the 74th minute of the second half. Thursday's match is the second match the season where Ros finished with multiple goals.
Following Mobile's first goal in the 31st minute, Blue Mountain managed to answer with their lone goal in the 38th minute. However, the Rams quickly took the lead back two minutes later following Ivan Jolivet's second goal of the season. Christopher McKenna was credited with the assist on Jolivet's go-ahead goal. Mobile took a 2-1 lead to halftime.
In the second half, Mobile added on to their one-goal lead in the 57th minute following a goal from Angel Almiron off a corner kick opportunity. Maxime Benoit took the corner and earned the assist. For Almiron, it is his third score of the season.
Later in the half, Kevin Fitzgerald extended the Rams' lead with his second goal of the season. Ros followed Fitzgerald's goal with his second goal of the match just two minutes later.
Starting goalkeeper for the Rams Ty Turner played the full 90 minutes and picked up one save in the winning effort.
SSAC Postseason Set to Begin
The Rams will return to action in the first round of the SSAC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament on Friday, Nov. 4 at the Jungle. The winner of Friday's match will advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament in Montgomery, Ala. at the Emory-Folmar YMCA Complex.
