BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. - Needing a win in order to host a first-round match in the upcoming SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, the University of Mobile Women's Soccer team fell short on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 27 with a 3-2 loss to Blue Mountain College, dropping the overall record to 8-6-2 and 4-4-0 in conference action. Thrusday's match was tabbed as the SSAC Women's Soccer Game of the Week.
The loss for Mobile is their fourth-straight defeat, with all losses coming in conference play. For Blue Mountain, the win over the Rams on Thursday keeps their season alive and earned the Toppers the sixth seed of the conference tournament. Both Mobile and Blue Mountain will play their first-round matches on the road next week.

Through the first 22 minutes of Thursday's matchup, both teams stayed scoreless until Mobile hit the scoreboard first in the 23rd minute. Freshman Raegan Latiolais notched her eighth goal of the season to put the Rams up, 1-0. However, Blue Mountain answered with the equalizer just 10 minutes later. From there, the score held 1-1 until the halftime whistle.
In the second half, Blue Mountain seemed to have the edge over Mobile, and took their first lead in the 54th minute with a goal. Looking for an insurance goal as time continued to tick off the clock, the Toppers pushed across the insurance goal in the 72nd minute. Down 3-1, pressure was on the Mobile offense to rally from down two with less than 20 minutes left.
In the 82nd minute, Mobile managed to score their second goal of the match to cut the deficit to just one. Sophie Roberts connected with the goal to increase her team-leading goal totals to 14 on the season. However, the Rams failed to score the equalizer before time expired as Blue Mountain came away victorious.
In the net for Mobile, Juliana Gomez faced 13 Blue Mountain shots, eight being on target, and tallied five saves. Blue Mountain out-shot the Rams 13-11 and held Mobile to just five shots in the second half. Blue Mountain took eight total shots in the final 45 minutes while on their way to victory.
2022 SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament
The No. 5 seed of Mobile will travel to Montgomery, Ala. next week for a first-round match against the Faulkner Eagles, who earned the No. 4 seed. Next week's postseason match is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Nov. 3.
The winner advances to the semifinals of the SSAC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament held at the Emory-Folmar YMCA Complex in Montgomery, Ala.
