MOBILE, Ala. - The University of Mobile Volleyball team returned to action on Friday night, Oct. 28 in Pharr Gymnasium, hosting conference foe Middle Georgia State. The Rams managed a 3-0 sweep over the Knights, winning 25-13, 25-15, and 25-14 to improve to 19-9 overall on the season and 10-5 in conference play. The sweep on Friday is Mobile's third-straight victory, while improving to 15-0 all-time against Middle Georgia State.
Senior Abby Andrews managed a career milestone in the win, surpassing 1,000 career kills in her four-year collegiate career with Mobile. Andrews entered Friday night with 999 career kills, and quickly earned kill number 1,000 early in set one. Play was stopped momentarily after Andrews' historic kill as Mobile Head Coach Jon Campbell presented her with an official NAIA ball. Additionally, Andrews surpassed 1,000 career defensive digs earlier this month. Andrews currently leads the Rams in offense on the season with 231 kills and is second on the team with 281 digs.
Match Recap - Rams Roll Past Knights
In the victory for Mobile, offense was on a tear, finishing the night with a .341 hitting percentage. The Rams were led by Andrews, who tallied a match-high 12 kills. In addition, Andrews led all players with eight service aces, bringing her weekly total to 15 aces and 24 kills in her last two matches played. As a team, the Rams served up 14 aces and 41 kills against Middle Georgia State.
Brinkley Hearn also had a nice night offensively, finishing with eight kills and leading Mobile with an impressive .583 hitting percentage. During Mobile's current three-match win streak, Hearn has been one of Mobile's most consistent threats on the offensive side, hitting over .360 in all three matches played, while tallying 21 kills.
In Mobile's 6-2 offense, Layton Adams finished the night with a match-high 20 assists, while Tatum Beech recorded 14. Defensively, Lexi Gillette notched 11 digs as Madison Bergeron finished with seven. Mobile ended with 39 total digs as a team.
Senior Day Tomorrow
Riding a three-match winning streak, Mobile will have a great shot at extending that to four matches tomorrow afternoon as the Rams will be heavily favored against Brewton-Parker College. Tomorrow's scheduled match is set for 1:00 p.m. CT and is the final home match of the 2022 season.
Prior to the start of the match, Mobile will honor Abby Andrews and Madison Bergeron for Senior Day. The two captains are in their final year with the program.
