PENSACOLA, Fla. - After an impressive season-opening win over Point University one week ago, the University of Mobile Men's Basketball team played two games in Pensacola, Fla. over the weekend as part of the Eagles Classic Invitational, hosted by Pensacola Christian College.
Mobile began the weekend on Friday, Nov. 4 against Toccoa Falls College and cruised to victory over the Screaming Eagles. The following day, the Rams battled Pensacola Christian and also eased to victory to improve to 3-0 on the young 2022-23 season.
Rams Dominant Over Toccoa Falls
On Friday evening in Pensacola, Mobile faced Toccoa Falls for the first time in history and defeating the Screaming Eagles, 100-53. Mobile's 47-point victory came in dominating fashion as the game seemed over at halftime with Mobile leading, 60-17.
For the second-straight game to start the year, sophomore Trent Moye led Mobile in scoring, tallying 22 points in 17 minutes played. Moye got his first start of the season in Friday's game, adding five rebounds, two assists, and a block to his line. He shot 8-for-12 from the floor and made four of six three-point attempts.
Pooh Frazier notched 15 points in the win, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor, while Ezra McKenna was one point and one rebound shy of a double-double. Overall, 14 Rams finished with at least two points in the victory as the team shot 54% from the floor and 46% from the three-point line. Additionally, Mobile out-rebounded Toccoa Falls, 60-33.
Another Solid Win on Saturday
Coming off the big win over Toccoa Falls, Mobile returned to the court on Saturday afternoon against host-school Pensacola Christian College. The Eagles of PCC entered winless against the Rams and stayed that way after Mobile defeated PCC, 77-42. The Rams had the edge at halftime, 45-21.
After being so close to a double-double in Friday's game, Ezra McKenna did manage to notch a double-double against Pensacola Christian, finishing with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. McKenna also led Mobile with two steals in the win.
DaMariee Jones finished one rebound shy of joining McKenna with a double-double, tallying 12 points and nine boards. Pooh Frazier and Logan Foutz both finished with 10 points as four Rams finished with double-digit point totals.
The Rams shot just under 50% from the floor and made seven of 19 threes. The team recorded a 65% free throw percentage and came away with 49 rebounds.
Mobile v. South Alabama
After the 3-0 start, Mobile returns to action in an exhibition game at the USA Mitchell Center with the University of South Alabama on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Exhibition games do not count on the regular season schedule for Mobile, but will be good experience for the Rams to face-off with NCAA D-I talent from South Alabama.
Wednesday's game will count on the schedule for South Alabama and is set for 7:00 p.m. CT. It will be broadcasted live on ESPN +.
