UM Tennis Teams Finish 1-1 in Annual SSAC Tennis Roundup

Rams Split Two Matches in Montgomery in the SSAC Roundup

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the annual SSAC Tennis Roundup on Mar. 31-Apr. 1 in Montgomery, Ala., both University of Mobile Tennis teams competed in two conference matches, with both teams finishing the tournament 1-1. The Rams faced Middle Georgia State on Thursday, Mar. 31, and wrapped up the tournament on Friday, Apr. 1 with a match against Florida National University.

The women's tennis team at Mobile fell to the Knights of Middle Georgia State on Thursday 4-1, dropping three of four singles matches that were played while missing out on the doubles point. Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo was responsible for Mobile's lone single win against Middle Georgia State.

The following day, the Rams bounced back with a 4-1 win of their own over Florida National University. Mobile earned the doubles point by winning the only two completed matches, and managed to claim three singles matches.

The second-seeded pair of Sofija Hrovat and Alina Schweizer earned a victory in their doubles match with the final score of 6-2, while the pair of Emily John and Luana Wild, the third seed in Mobile's lineup, won 6-3 in their doubles match.

In singles action, Maria Jose Reynaldo Toledo cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over her opponent in the first flight and saw teammates Luana Wild and Emily John secure the other two singles matches for the win. Luana Wild won 6-2, 6-4 and Emily John won 6-2, 6-2 with her win being the match decider.

Following Mobile's 1-1 weekend in the SSAC Tennis Roundup, the 24th-ranked Rams have an 8-4 overall record and 2-2 conference record.

For the 19th-ranked men's tennis team at Mobile, the Rams saw the same scores as they women's team did. Mobile was handed a 4-1 loss to Middle Georgia State on Thursday, seeing just one doubles win and one singles win in the match.

Joao Pedro Okano earned the lone singles victory for the Rams from the second flight, defeating his opponent, 6-2, 6-2. Prior to his singles win, Pedro Okano and teammate Boris Klingebiel defeated the opposition 6-1 as the first-seeded pair in doubles action. 

On Friday, the Rams defeated Florida National 4-1 to end the weekend on a high note. Mobile dropped the doubles point, falling in two of three doubles matches, but claimed the match win with four victories in the singles matches. 

Boris Klingebiel and Joao Pedro Okano once again won as a pair in the first flight in doubles play, while both earning victories in singles action. Klingebiel was Mobile's no. 1 seed and won his match, 6-4, 6-3. His point was the deciding point of the match. Pedro Okano followed with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win as the second seed. 

Nicolas Mougaillard also won in singles play, defeating his opponent 6-3, 6-3 from the fourth flight in the lineup, and Mobile's no. 5 seed of Santiago Diloreto managed to win his singles match, 6-3, 6-3.

Mobile moves to 8-3 on the season following the conference roundup and sits with a 3-1 SSAC record.



Both tennis teams at Mobile have concluded the 2022 regular season and will return to action on Apr. 21-23 in the SSAC Tennis Championship Matches. Both the men's tournament and women's tournament will be played at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala. Opponents and times are TBA.
