BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In the three-day UAB Invite / Multi outdoor track and field meet in Birmingham, Ala. on Apr. 7-9, the University of Mobile Outdoor Track and Field teams continued their success on the 2022 season, seeing two more student-athletes qualify for NAIA Nationals, while another broke a school record. Additionally, six personal records were set in the Birmingham meet hosted by the University of Alabama-Birmingham this weekend.
Anna Cabrera, who has already qualified in the women's 100 meter hurdles event, qualified for the heptathlon this weekend, placing fourth overall in the NAIA in the events. Cabrera managed to qualify for the heptathlon during the indoor track and field season as her schedule will grow busier at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Gulf Shores.
Joseph Moses III was the new Ram to qualify for nationals this weekend, qualifying in the men's 100 meter dash event with a time of 10.65 seconds. Moses III finished third overall in the event this weekend as he is the 11th Ram to qualify for nationals this season under head coach Andy Canegitta.
Fedra Florentin smashed a previous school record in the women's shot put on the final day of the meet, previously set by herself. Florentin recorded a new mark of 13.70 meters in the event, her personal best. She has already managed to qualify for nationals in the shot put event.
Myla Edwards and Yasmin Pines joined Florentin in recording personal records from the women's outdoor track and field team at Mobile this weekend. Edwards recorded a new personal best in the 100 meters with a time of 12.23 seconds, while Pines recorded a time of 1:05.88 in the 400 meters for a new personal record.
On the men's side, both Lance Paquette and Ian Tablan bested out previous personal records in the 1500 meters event. Paquette recorded a time of 4:20.01 and Tablan finished with a time of 4:42.00.
Preston Webb joined Paquette and Tablan in recording a new personal record in the UAB Invite / Multi, besting his previous time in the 5000 meters run with a new record of 16:09.48. Webb qualified for NAIA Nationals in the half marathon earlier in the season as he and Moses III are the only two Rams thus far this season from the men's outdoor track and field team at Mobile to qualify for nationals.
Both Mobile Outdoor Track and Field teams will take a weekend off next weekend and will prepare for the SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Apr. 22-23 in Birmingham, Ala. The University of Mobile Women's Outdoor Track and Field team won the conference title last season and will defend their title in two weeks.
