University of Mobile Golf Teams Open 2022-23 Season at Point Invitational Over the Weekend

UM Men's and Women's Golf Come Away with Top-Five Finishes in Season Opener

LANETT, Ala. - In the 2022-23 season opening tournament for the University of Mobile Men's and Women's Golf programs, both teams came away with top-five finishes in the Point University Fall Invitational on Sept. 10-11. The Rams, led by ninth-year head coach TJ Jackson, played two rounds in the Point Invite on both the men's and women's side, while playing on a par 71 course at the Point University Golf Club.

2022 Ladies Point Fall Invite

It was a great start for the UM Women's Golf team over the weekend, finishing fourth overall out of eight competing teams. Mobile tallied a total score of 681 (+113) in the two-round tournament, with round two being their best round with a 339. 

Sophomore Grace Bryant led the way for Mobile, placing tied for sixth overall individually out of 43 entrants. The Louisville, Ky. native recorded a score of 162 (+20) and was tied for fourth following round one. Bryant is up for the SSAC Women's Golfer of the Week honor that will be announced on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Behind Bryant, Abby Ervin and Klausen Madison finished back-to-back. Ervin, a true freshman playing in her first collegiate tournament, finished tied for 19th with a +30. Madison, who is in her second year with Mobile, placed 21st overall with a 173 (+31).

Men's Point University Fall Invite

In the men's tournament over the weekend, the Rams came away with a fifth-place finish, while seeing two of their own finish within the top five on the individual side. As a team, Mobile finished with a score of 585 (+17), giving them the fifth-place spot out nine competing teams. A total of 48 golfers entered the men's tournament.

Sophomore Jon Byrd managed to come home with a fourth-place finish in the season opener, shooting below par with a 141 (-1). Byrd shot two below par in round two to jump four spots between the two rounds, collecting his first collegiate top-five finish.

Mobile newcomer Teagan Miller put together a great first tournament as a Ram, finishing tied for fifth with an even score of 142 (E). Similar to Byrd, Miller, a transfer from Austin Peay University, had a great round two, shooting three below par with a 68, which jumped him 13 spots to finish in the top five.

Next on the Schedule

UM Women's Golf will return to action next week for their second tournament of the 2022-23 season. Mobile will travel to nearby Hattiesburg, Miss. for the Carey Collegiate at the Canebrake Country Club for a two-day tournament hosted by conference rival William Carey University. 

For the men's team at Mobile, the Rams will take a couple of weeks off before their next scheduled tournament on Oct. 3-4. The Rams will compete in the Music City Invitational in Goodlettsvillle, Tenn. The two-day tournament in central Tennessee will be hosted by Cumberland University.
