Late Second Half Goal Lifts No. 2 Mobile to 1-0 Road Win Friday Afternoon

Rams Defeat Thomas University Behind Lucas Ros' Second Half Game Winner

THOMASVILLE, Ga. - After almost two weeks from their previous match played on the 2022 season, the second-ranked University of Mobile Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 16 with a non-conference road match against Thomas University (Ga.). The Thomas Night Hawks are set to join the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) beginning next year, and will meet the Rams of Mobile on a more consistent basis. Friday's meeting was the 14th all-time meeting between Mobile and Thomas, with the Rams sporting an 11-3 record entering Friday's match.

On Friday, Mobile escaped with a 1-0 win against the unranked Night Hawks, and improved their overall record to 4-0-1. In a chippy match that saw 19 fouls and eight yellow cards between the two teams, it was Lucas Ros' goal in the 70th minute for Mobile that was the difference maker and handed the Rams the victory. Jose Sanabria and Maxime Benoit were credited with the double-assist on Ros' game winner, as the goal is the team-leading fourth on the year for Ros.

Overall, Mobile managed to out-shoot Thomas, tallying a whopping 24 shots with nine being recorded on-goal. The Night Hawks only took nine shots overall in the full 90 minutes, with two being saved by Mobile goalkeeper Ty Turner. In Turner's fourth match started on the year in the net, the junior brought his saves total on the season up to seven, while advancing his record to 3-0-1 following Friday's shutout.

One More Non-Conference Match Ahead

No. 2 Mobile is set to return to play with a big non-conference match next Wednesday, Sept. 21 against No. 10 Georgia Gwinnett College. The NAIA Top-10 matchup next Wednesday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. CT in Lawrenceville, Ga.
